if they do reissue this set, i hope they change the track sequence to coincide with the original lps, with bonus tracks at the end of each album. i never understood why they chose to place them in strictly chronological order for the original box.

perhaps "can't play anymore" is a bit of an exaggeration. however, i've seen bartz play in three different settings over the past year (sphere, eric reed's dolphy tribute band, and the tolliver big band), and i was sadly disappointed with his loss of chops. it happens to the best.

fantasy has issued nine original cds by wes on cd, four of which have been reissued in k2 form. the rest of the cds in the catalog are compilations of alternate or unissued tracks that are available in the box set. unless you're hankering for these unissued tracks, i'd pass on the box.

i just got this disc today, and me likey! i've enjoyed a number of hersch's trio recordings in the past. the addition of the two horns opens things up quite a bit. it feels like i'm getting a chance to hear more of hersch's creative vision, and what i hear is, well yeah, exciting and fresh! i strongly recommend this disc to others. heck, i think it should be considered for album-of-the-week.

now i'm really confused! mark, if you didn't request the mobley, my guess is that dmitry got another offer for it, since apparently he never received anything from me.
