  1. Eli & Giants messed up in the last minute. One of those teams needs to practise their onside kicks.
  2. old enough to remember when they sold king sized Sweet Tarts at the corner Drug.
  3. The amazing thing about that run was that, except for the first two against Detroit, it came against some of the best teams in baseball: Tribe, Bosox, LAA, and Stros. word!
  4. Hey David, have you heard Clinkers? There are solo ones and solo ones While Gokhan is not posting more of his impressions from Mulhouse, here is a short but wild flick from Barry Guy's Orchestra perfomance (3,4 Mb) ← Clinkers is great. ← splendid. serendipitous.
  5. None of the Tad Jones blue note recordings. No Bechet or Fats Navarro either.
  6. The more ass kicking the better as far as I'm concerned. This is what happens when you have incompetent liberal politicians in control. That Mayor should get his ass kicked out of office for good.
  7. One of the Sirius network jazz stations is ok with a healthy selection of hard bop. Best option on the table if you drive around Iowa.
  8. Can't go back to sleep now, -- old "nasty-one" is wideawake -- but hey dragging guys comments from forum to forum and thread to thread gets pretty old pretty fast. And given the title of this thread is "nastiness and this board" thought I would shake myself awake long enough to post a quick comment. Of course, I am not at all startled to see that your reaction was measured and thoughtful. Nor will I be shocked, if you find a way to respond to this, that somehow mentions the Aryan nation or something.
  9. I don't get this. I don't see that much hostility here (other than minimal isolated incidents). It depends where you hang out, I guess. Sorry you feel this way. It has nothing to do with hostility. It has to do with a few individuals venting their frustration or whatever with life, the universe, their careers or whatever, pissing on everything and everybody, usually without giving it much thought. The atmosphere has turned sour and I've got better things to do than to read the "personal opinions" they so proudly defend. Cheers! P.S.: Am I the only one that has noticed that at least one frequent poster has left quietly because of this? Apparently, because everyone else has posted useless "happy birthdays" for him. The ability to disagree, while at the same time respecting others differing views is obviously a skill or attribute most of us are simply not very good at, or just don't have. Sadly. So simple conversations become slugfests, which then end up too often with pick-your-favorite-card being played. Racist, anti-semitic, or when really floundering around I guess, just toss out a nazi riff or two -- always a showstopper that one. And to try and escape slight criticism by trying to equate that europeans have called Nixon a crook or Johnson a killer or whatever -- thus its okay to keep yanking that old nazi chain -- pretty weak really.
  10. Thanks all. Now I just have to find the time to finish the project. Ha!
  11. Sorry to say, but from the photos looks like a high school Cross Country race sponsored by the X Games. Hope it looks better in person. Weizen: Hope your Volvo-driving neighbors can give you a good report as well. But are you sure it wasn't just the wine talking about them going???
  12. Thanks vibes and africabrass! One last question if that is allright with you. If someone has sent me a cd-r with mp3 files, can I, or should I, convert them to wav?
  13. Ooops, should have put this in Audio Forum. And it is clearly beyond me to change it, so hope you'll take pity on me and help out here.
  14. I would like to take some high end remastered cds (mfsl/jrvg/other) and transfer them to cd-r for personal use. Is it advisable to save the songs to my pc library as wav or mp3 files? Which will yield a truer sound when played back in my stereo system? What happens when a file is converted from mp3 to wav? I am finally getting to some of tasks many of you do all the time. So thanks in advance for any assistance!
  15. The funniest parts are the translations by MilesDavis. Was that the screen name used by Ghost of Miles back at the former Blue Note bulletin board?
  16. Congrats! I was just waiting until you took paternity leave so it would be safe to return to the political threads! Hope Mom, baby and you are doing great -- savor these moments, it is such a miracle.
  17. I am hoping the Backed-In duo keeps up their winning ways -- two 8-8 teams playing for the Conference Championship just appeals to my sense of humor, and makes all the pundit prognasticators types look silly as well! But I don't know how the Vikes can pull off another outdoor upset. However, the Rams - Atlanta game will be a good one, probably 39-38 or something like that! Gotta cheer for the tough guy teams in the AFC -- Pittsburgh and NE; much as I like Herm Edwards and my favorite former Golden Gopher Tony Dungy.
  18. I like the old school Bud Grant approach of act like you've been there before, so put me in the camp of wishing he would have just tossed the ball to the ref and hugged his teammates. But I do think the announcers during the game, and the FOX crew in the studio after the game -- as well as the ESPN Berman and Jackson duo -- were ridiculous in their hand-wringing and protestations of outrage. You would have thought it was your grandma's church ladies stumbling into a brothel for all their act of being shocked, shocked, shocked. A fake moon shot is tame compared to the regular network fare on FOX, to say nothing of the football cheerleaders and the tv ads that run during the game. And yeah trying to distract your kids when they start in on another Levitra ad -- now that is a heck of a lot harder than explaining why some guy pretended to moon some fans, but golly-gee Chris Berman is all worried about disgracing the frozen tundra of Lambeau field. Of course he spent so much time talking about the moon over lambeau that he didn't have time to talk about how golden-boy Farve stunk up the joint, and how he cost his team big time when he made that sidearm flip right before half -- and then laughed about it. Hell Berman even made that bone-head play one of his plays of the day -- not calling him on it, but because it just showed how much Bret Farve loves the game. Oh well, at the games this weekend should be entertaining.
