That would be my personal assessment, yes. I think Byas was tremendously important and consistently enjoyable. And by definition, more "modern" than the Chu. Having said that those Vanguard records are certainly enjoyable or better. And there will, again by definition, have a variety of solo voices.

Byas was a master musician. Vanguard was a label that put out some good records.
