Bravo! And in truth, I think the more "purist" choice is to make whatever decision is necessary to be able to focus on the playing. The "instrumental purists" more often than not strike me as defensive fetishists of an uncomfortably isolationist bent. Which is not to say that there isn't a "difference" or that individual preferences do not justify themselves, of course there are and of course they do. But the difference between a deeply considered choice and a basic reflex conditioned by "image" is a vast one indeed. Sometimes, one is so caught up in hearing what one is not hearing that they fail to hear what they actually are hearing. If life gives you lemons, indeed, make lemonade. And should you end up having some damn fine lemonade, that you are not having the apple juice you had initially hoped for is hardly a complaint worth pursuing!

Yeah, the recommendation for this particular album,is not for the vocals, but for the soloings, which are splendid and plentiful.

Ok, memory has failed. We were playing out last gig with the old drummer in Des Plaines when we went to see Weather Report. THEN we went to Detroit to retool. Or else drove from Detroit back to Poplar Creek. I didn't write any of this down, maybe I should have. all I know is that I was there, wherever it was and whenever it happened. That much I do know.

I couldn't tell you Muscovy duck from Muscadine wine, but your description more than fits! The thing about Tampa that tripped me out, the short time we lived there anyway, was the abundance of golf courses, and the lack of expressways. Seemed like almost every subdivision had their own golf course, and that there was no expressways anywhere, everything had lights at every intersection. What looked on the map to be a 15-20 drive routinely became 45 minutes to an hour. Nuts! That was 1990, though.

Oh geez, now you ask me to remember...some summer arts festival in some bigass park, that's all I can remember, lots of trees and it took a little driving to get there out of Detroit proper. I was there while the road band I was with found and broke in a new drummer. Saw the 4 Tops live downtown on the 4th of July, took some phony acid (cf Fugs "I Couldn't Get High"). It was a nice place to see a concert though, outdoors, rolling hills, good sound system, nice and clean. Ok, Poplar Creek Music Theatre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois...how far was that from Detroit? That's where it was, research shows.

And that you can shoot them for dinner! We lived in Tampa , for about 18 months, (4942 Dewey Rose Court, to be exact, drop by when you're in town and ask for a tour) and I swear to god, there was a gang of ducks running a shakedown racket out of one of the neighborhood wetlands areas. Every Saturday morning they'd come through the neighborhood waddling in formation, literally going from house to house endlessly quacking and standing there until somebody came up and fed them something. I thought this was cute the first few times it happened, but then I realized that these motherfuckers weren't cuties, they were freakin' web-footed hoodlums. So the next time they came around, I did not come out to greet them. They stood there for a good 10 minutes or so until the leader gave the signal, at which time they all shit on my driveway, and then moved on to the next house. Oh yes they did. It was a planned and coordinated driveway duckshit, and it was not as easy to clean up as you might suspect. The week after that, here they come again, and this time I came out to meet them with a broom. They got all thuggy at first but then I started swinging the broom and yelling some kind of random blood call at them. They quacked louder at first, so I swung and yelled even harder, stared taking aim at the leader, and pretty soon they flew off. There was still duck shit to clean up, but the message got over, as they did not again return. So yeah, we all love ducks and all that, but they are, I believe, thuggish by nature, and it always is a true enjoyment when I get to eat one. Horses? Hey, horses are among the most noble of all creatures. I have no desire to kill ANY horse, much less eat one. But a duck? Fuck a duck, dude, fuck a duck. Good luck and congratulations on the move!

Harold Land and Teddy Edwards, both in fine form. Full choruses apiece, mostly, on each cut. Matthew Gee too, for those who might be looking. Mr. Beeks himself is in somewhat unfortunate form, I gather that his was not the happiest of endings, but just wait for him to stop, then it gets good.

Everybody records TV shows now.
JSngry replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Pretty sure that recording and streaming are not the same thing. But yes, "delayed viewing" (as they call it) either with streaming apps or DVRs is not only a trend, it's a very pleasant reality for most everybody these days. I also get the impression that the cable companies are really scrambling, because their facilitators for this (like OnDemand, etc.) is also becoming obsolete, as it requires cable service in the first place, and..who here is or is thinking of becoming, a cord-cutter? Not me, but I still listen to AM radio, so don't count me as representative, please. Hell, Time-Warner is offering a streaming app, I guess for those times when you don't really feel like you need cable but figure, oh hell why not. But hello, cable going the way of land lines, probably, and yes, I still have one of those too. Content Providers and Content Deliverers...new paradigm a' comin'.
