It's as tall as Errol was short, or maybe almost as tall as Errol was. Maybe that's the joke, a packaging pun or something. I'd have preferred something like the sound of crashing waves everything you open it up, like on the birthday cards that play bad pop songs. Or maybe a refillable spritzer that splashes you in the face every time you open it, that would be funny (at least once). Hell, perhaps even an inflatable phone book to sit on while listening, there you go, peripherals. My shelves will hold those old Japanese mini LP replica things, just barely, and mostly. This one noticeably exceeds those. This thing is going to have to be stored flat, which I can do, but I mean, seriously, wtf? "deluxe" does not mean "dysfunctional", those are two different words..

I got mine today too, have not listened to it, but am already asking what type of shelf this thing was designed to fit on. It's just too damn tall!

I hope they stay around "forever". They're the most insanely useful resource for retail online musical discovery that I've yet to encounter, even if they do pack their stuff which what must surely be a maniacal cackle of OCD. Small price to uh, pay, in more than one way.

So, if his final album doesn't get recorded, what will his final album then be?

Gotta love how they mashup Ben Dixon & Grant Green... Images aplenty of the original here: http://www.discogs.com/Jimmy-Ponder-Pondern/release/5255042 I'm told that Discogs pictures never show up here, so. Note that Pisces is a cut from a Jimmy McGriff GM album, so technically McGriff is on the record. http://www.dougpayne.com/jpdisco.htm#PONDERN This would be the America album I assume?

Here's what the black covered ones look like, and now I see that the tile is not exactly the same, it's "grandi" instead of "giganti": they have a little history booklet inside. Apparently this series was put out for sale at newsstands as an adjunct ot some jazz magazine or something...it's in the board's bowels somewhere, that story. Where the white covers "giganti" series get weird is that at some point the series name changed to Europa Jazz. Everything else, same.

Ponderin' was first released on 51 West, a CBS offshoot that released all sorts of things, including older Lester/Groove Merchant material:: http://www.discogs.com/label/44020-51-West Also note:http://www.dougpayne.com/jpdisco.htm PONDER'N Jimmy Ponder prob. New York City: c. 1980 (?) prob. Warren Bernhardt (p); Jimmy Ponder (g); Ron Carter (b); Ben Dixon (d). a. Seven Minds (Sam Jones) prob. Warren Bernhardt (el-p); Jimmy Ponder (g); Ron Carter (b); Ben Dixon (d). b. Visions (Jimmy Ponder) prob. Warren Bernhardt (p); Jimmy Ponder (g); Ron Carter (b); Ben Dixon (d). c. Ponder'n (Jimmy Ponder) d. Blues Bag (prob. Jimmy Ponder) e. All Blues (Miles Davis) Note: LRC CDC 9031 [CD] indicates that Jimmy McGriff plays organ on "Seven Minds," "Visions" and "Blues Bag" although no organ is heard on these titles. It is unlikely that Jimmy McGriff participates here at all. Issues: a-e on 51 West Q16118 Samplers: a-e also on I Giganti Del Jazz (It) GJ-28 titled I GIGANTI DEL JAZZ. a also on LRC 20010 [CD] titled LRC JAZZ LEGACY ANTHOLOGY and LRC 20012 [CD] titled A KISS TO BUILD A DREAM ON: LRC JAZZ LEGACY ANTHOLOGY. a, b & d also on LRC CDC 9031 [CD] titled JIMMY PONDER. Producer: (not listed, probably Sonny Lester) The post-Groove Merchant activities of Sonny Lester are quite, um, curious. This Italian series, LRC, Laserlight (which ,they all contained live material of "questionable" origin as well as material that was more obviously his own work, but even at the, there would be these Jones-Lewis things from the Solid State days that he no longer had appeared to have the rights to. Oh yeah - there were two series of I Giganti Del Jazz, the ones with the black covers, and the ones with the white covers. It's the series with the white covers that seem to draw heavily on Lester material

It's ok to keep the "sea" in sea bass. that distinguishes it from the various lake basses that are so plentiful, so delicious, and the target of so many anglers world wide And which are also members of the perch/sunfish family, which the sea bass is not. TMI here: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070912195109AA4GLqm All of this remind me...I love to fish, and have not really done so in 20+ years. The sport is fun enough (I once pulled in a 16 lb. striper, and WHOA!), but the eating is the real treat. Fish so fresh you can still taste the lake (or ocean), which is a good thing if the water is clean.

Larry, so you know of any indicators that Mosca went through the same type (or similar) of "changes" that Grimes did? That degree of isolation for that long is just...unusual, I think.
