  1. It's a fine idea for a thread, go with it. The only potential pitfall is that as time goes on, the thread might get so crowded that thread readership becomes kind of "locked in", and attention to a release that might appeal to a broader/different/overlapping listenership might be lost. Time will tell. One of the "concerns" about the old Funny Rat thread was that it was unintentionally creating a ghetto for the music. Perhaps it was. Or on a much more trivial level, a new release that's already under discussion here might get a new thread started by somebody who's not following this thread, and then the Anti-Duplicate Discussion people get irked. Not that that's the worse thing that could happen, mind you. Other than that, this is a thread about New Releases in the New Release sub-forum, so, hey, see where it goes, and much love for anybody's informed enthusiasm about any music.
  2. Best GoogleAd Link EVER!!!! High Anxiety like a MO!
  3. 2003-2011 (although more or less played-out by 2008-2009, but not before 239 pages!)
  4. Never even knew that such a record existed! But the tenor player, yeah, ok, that makes sense, he goes all the way back to the original Was not Was (I think), and I always though it a little unfortunate for him (in terms of marketplace identification) that his name was so close to David Murray. But he's managed to have a career in his own right, so good for him!
  5. Ok, found it: http://www.allmusic.com/album/backbeat-mw0000112918
  6. A soprano surprise awaits...and it ain't Tony!
  7. Grasping at straws here...Don Was?
  8. I don't know how powerful Bob Belden actually is, but is he involved?
  9. (hold out for an original Philles LP, though. anything else, good as it might be, is only going to give you a different story) And one to avoid, even if it only costs you 25 cents (as mine did):
  10. stoopid-funkygood
  11. Maybe not...he's one of those guys whose energy is its own reward, more than his actual substance. I enjoy/enjoyed it (and very subjectively) in the context of the time/place/social context, he was just more..."jump off the cliff" than what you'd normally find there, but if you didn't feel it the first time, I don't know that there's anything there to change your mind. Or was he recommending Campisi's? http://www.campisis....ockingbird.html As for me myself, I'd file both under "if you like that type of thing".

  13. I'd tend to agree, but a case could be made for Tony Campise, although in the end, yeah, Park. Don't sleep on Campise, though, I guess that's what I'm saying. apart from the overt Kirk-isms, he was quite a spirit!
  14. Target met and exceeded, still 6 hours left!
  15. He was a replacement for Alexi Ogando (iirc) who in turn was a replacement for Neftali Feliz. so many injuries to the staff last year, it's hard to remember who went down when. Ogando should be ready by Spring Training, Alexi Ogando (and Colby Lewis) by mid-season. Season opening rotation currently shaping up to be Darvish, Harrison, Holland, Ogando, and ________ , with ________ possibilities ranging anywhere from (maybe?) Zack Grienke to Martin Perez to Robbie Ross to Who Knows What Surprises Lay In Store. Ogando back to the BP when Colby comes back, probably, and Feliz probably comes back to the BP. No Roy Oswalt, though, about which I can only fantasize about Roy Oswalt and Lamar Odom being represented by the same agent and how those conversations must have gone down.
  16. Good to know. Thanks!
  17. Oh heck, another one to get from NoBusiness! That group would be of interest to me. I'm not familiar with the label, though. Is it direct order, or will the usual suspects be dealing it?
  18. $140.00 to go, 11 hours remaining. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/212086258/billy-harper-finally-presents-his-60-voice-project
  19. Yeah, truly a seminal figure. RIP.
  20. To lovers, with love. Of course. Not for sale!
  21. Glenn Close Jamie Farr People Who Stay At The Proximity Hotel http://www.proximityhotel.com/
  22. Mine too (not yesterday, but a few days ago, looking very nice indeed). This may be the best value going right now, these records at these prices.
