  1. I have it on one of those nifty Alamac LPs from the late 70s. To the best of my knowledge, that was the first public release of it.
  2. Not even if you put a comma in there.
  3. I mean the contents. One has both, the other just City of Glass. Maybe they changed covers on the 10" before adding TMW to the 12" and then kept that cover?
  4. And those things that look like punch holes are supposed to be actual examples of the Graettinger's notation. The on on the left is "City of Glass" and "This Modern World". The one on the right is just "City of Glass".
  5. "rational" and "fantasy" used in the same linear thought...that's something I still need to work on doing... Seriously, I really don't get fantasy sports, how they work or even what the appeal is. Strat-O-Matic was fantasy baseball for me! But hey, different stokes and all that. Long as the real deal keeps going, I'm happy.
  6. Yep. Totally under all but a very few people's radar, even on the organization. Yesterday on the telecast, they were talking about how the night before, on some national sports talk station, there was a discussion about fantasy leagues and how nobody was even thinking of thinking about Moreland. Callins from across the land proved it. So ok, fantasy baseball, fantasy sports in general, is not something to which I can even begin to relate or care about. But the point is, this guy is very quietly stepping up in a big way, in every way. Wash has had him go between first & right, I even think he's been in left once or twice, and the guy just goes out and plays, gives it all he's got and gets it done. So yeah, Mitch Moreland! Not...gonna...be a problem...

  8. Especially when heard outside.
  9. The LP I've got has the two quartets in separate channels, but not discretely so. You do get some bleed. But it's ok. RE: Free Jazz vs Ascension the long-time comparison is that one is "light" & the other "dark", but to me, one is a family picnic, the other a church service. Of course, those two things often go together, so...

  11. Nice come from behind win by the White Sox against the Angels last night, hopefully a sign of things to come here this weekend.

  13. I came to it backwards, in a way,,,in the space of about a year, went from Beatles/Hendrix to Zappa, to jazz in general, "avant-garde" in particular, and actually, swear to god, heard both Bitched Brew & Free Jazz for the first times on the same night, while visiting one of my Dad's Army buddies in Louisville, Kentucky. Bit of a story, that one, already told on Board Krypton, and not worth repeating, point being just that all that "weird" stuff was very much in my wheelhouse when I came to it. Different time then, it was...
  14. Jerome Richardson, Jerry Dodgion, Joe Henderson, Eddie Daniels, Pepper Adams = reeds Snooky Young, Richard Williams(?). ? & = tpts Cliff Heather, ?, Garnett Brown, Jimmy Knepper = tbns Roland Hanna, Richard Davis, Mel Lewis = rhythm section and Thad Jones as The Beaver. Richard Williams on 3rd, right? Yeah, seems like a good call, as doe Al Porcino. Eddie Bert, yeah, knew the face, couldn't place the name. You remember Cliff Heather, right Paul? The old man of the band! An I think that's Garnett Brown's forhead. But I could be wrong.
  15. That's what this guy thought...
  16. Damn, now there's a cat who had a blessed life and must've had a heart bigger than life itself to have lived it all the way he did. I'll put him down as the greatest lead player as far as my personal tastes go for that type of thing. Like Paul said, he knew how to swing. Plus he knew how to make a section, and ensemble, and a whole damn band swing. Amazing career, amazing life, amazing player, and unlike most lead palyers, a damn fine soloist as well. Nobody can say that he never carpe diemed, not to have done it like that. God bless Snooky Young. RIP & MUCHAS gracias.

  20. Maybe there was postage due? (and no, that's not supposed to be "funny" either)
  21. Oh HELL yeah. Anybody mention The Counts yet?
  22. Sorry to be a day late in sigining, but I'm trying to compensate by passing this along to all my friends, fellow players, and friends who are also fellow players.

  24. Oh, BTW, Mitch Moreland is gradually being revealed as being the real deal, one of those show-up-every-day-just-to-play-baseball-and-play-the-hell-out-of-it-no-matter-what type guys. Definitely.
