  1. That didn't happen to the extent hoped for, and this offense is even more crippled now, but a 3-2 loss to Halladay with this lineup...come see us in November, maybe. Or not. Either way, Hamilton & Cruz set to come back on Monday. Still no relief in sight for the bullpen (no pun intended), but one piece at a time... Lewis vs Lee tomorrow. Here's hoping for the pitcher's duel it ought to be.
  2. Will it make pop too?
  3. That whole Jazz Master Of The... series is pretty damn good. The Joe Goldberg book about the '50s is still valuable, as is the one Rex Stewart wrote about the '30s (or was it the "Swing Era"?)
  4. Just another example of how history is little more than inevitable conclusions unfolding in real time in the wake of some kind of paradigm shift.
  5. Finally, a price I can afford on the Mono Beatles Box, Thanks for the tip, GP!
  6. There will be no 1-0Rangers victories this year.. Feliz does not flop, but nevertheless folds, and Dammit Darren Oliver Dammits all up. Again. Dammit. Both starters pitched real gems, neither got a decision, but your star closer holds a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th, always, or else he's your potential star closer. To paraphrase a Don Cherry album, WHERE IS BULLPEN?? And even better - the all second string outfield took another hit this evening as Endy Chavez came out with a tight hammie, to be replaced by Andres Blanco, making his professional debut in an outfield position, at any level, ever. Mr. Blanco fumbled a single hit to him my Mr. Francoueur, who decided to stretch it into a double, only to be met by the waiting ball of Mr. Blanco's peg in from RF. Mr. Blanco, it seems, has throwing skills, skills which he quickly psycehd could be used anywhere on the field. Surprise, Mr. Francouer! Mr. Francouer, otoh, has the satisfaction of driving in the game-winning run with a little bloop of a blip to center field at a time and a place where he needed to stretch nothing. How the fuck do you play baseball without an even semi-reliable bullpen? Somebody tell me that. I dare ya'.
  7. Is that a serious statement, or another dry witticism?
  8. He got hit by friendly fire when we took out Bin-Laden. Tragic.
  9. I've heard it, and it is THE Don Wilkerson. Don't think that album was ever released, though. But the 45 is definitely Don.
  10. DH can be used in lieu of any position. If you got a hot hitting pitcher, you could DH him in every game that he's not pitching in. That's in theory, of course. But there's no law agin' it!
  11. It's becoming an ongoing tradition, but only certain people get to play.
  12. Yeah, those pickoffs were sweeeet. but Nefti's still not in that Nefti groove. Don't know if it's psychical, mental, Some resolution awaits, hopefully. Otherwise, though, the Rangers played a gritty game, the kind you wish they wouldn't be in the situation to have to play, but once you are there, hell yeah, play 'em gritty and grit'em out until you win. Kinlser made some successful dives at balls that said GRITTY, David Murph7y & ChuckChris Gentry made some putfield grab that were indicitive of a mental gtittiness that hit the spot like the man who ran over the dog. And Adrian Beltre's face after getting the go ahead hit in the 11yh, hey, everytime I see that smile in that situation, I get happy, because I don't see ego or show, I just see somebody who's happy to have done the right thing in the right way at the right time, and I don't ever get tired of seeing that type thin. And yeah, this guy GOT some glove. Oh yes he do! but oh by the way....OGANDO!!!
  13. Babs Gonzales...maaaayyyybeee?????
  14. The good thing is that these are all young/young-ish starters, so you hope that at some point they grow out of it, and ideally/hopefully this season. But hey - check your baseball cards and see how many pitchers you see from over the years who had potential but never really got over that one bad habit, whatever it was. More than a few...
  15. I'm thinking that these freakin' spring colds suck, and that the fact that I was given a laptop so I could work from home whenever I wanted to was some kind of Faustian bargain to take advantage of my work ethic and get me to leave a lot of sick time on the table at the end of the year, and now I'm thinking that maybe if I just sneezed a nasty old snootfull of snot all up into the laptop keyboard that I could take that sick time while waiting for a new laptop.
  16. No idea what this specifically refers to... Refers to Matt Harrison going along swimmingly, like his head's in a good place, which means he's got his game all the way on, and then out of nowhere walking two and then throwing up a three run gopher ball, anf then immediately thereafter returning us to our regularly scheduled programming, like nothing ever happened. Refers to Cody Eppely not being able to find the strike zone in the bottom of the eight until finally he couldn't even find the catcher's mitt and WP-ed the winning run home in the bottom of the eight. So much for extra innings... A good consistent pitcher is a thing of joy, even on their off days. But an inconsistently good pitcher, one who can lose it as quick as he finds it and vice-versa....bah. In football it's placekickers, and dammit are they aggravating. In The Greatest Game, it's these guys, and the aggravation level is suitably adjusted upwards.
