If Kevin Spacey's dad was a NY jazz pianist in 1965, he would be that guy.

Great album. It is only in real life that a girl has to cry.

Say what you will about assholes, but they do act as a counter to complacency.

Eminent JJ Johnson Vol 2: Essential Mobe?

I would love nothing more than to be the first recipient of The Mobel Prize. -
Yeah, Ogando scratche b/c of the blister issue. Tomorrow = Dave Bush v CC Sabbathia. Oh HELL yeah! Something tells me the 2011 Texas Rangers As Originally Assembled will be totally asskicking in the 25 or so games they actually play together...

In these Mobephysical time, you gotta have all your Mobessentials lined up to fully maximize the potential your Mobeconomy. -
Yeah, see, that's the part that never should have happened. If you were watching the game, you know what I mean. Derek Holland has a lot of potential, and has really been developing it nicely over the last few starts. To take that next step, he needed to go out there and seal the deal by throwing strikes, pitching to contact, in general, just pitching like you know you got it in the bag as long as you don't fuck up.So what does this motherfucker promptly proceed to do? Lose the f-in strike zone. Completely. It's not like he was making his pitches and the Yankee bats were too strong for him. He had them. No, this cat just loses it, all at once, throws almost 50 pitches in that 3rd (he was just a little over 20 for the first two), gives up four, and then walk Posada to lead off the 4th. Where the hell does all that come from? It's "character" more than skill, I think. or if "character" is too judgemental a word in these Days Of Anti-Judgement, let's try the more consequence-neutral "mental focus". Fortunately, tonight, Wash was not in the mood for character building and yanked his ass outta there, a decision probably made a lot easier by knowing that Feliz was back. Time to win. Boy, was it ever... I know, he's young, Holland is, and I know that pitching's a bitch. Stuff like this is part of the growth process. Also, stuff like this is what eventually separates real Major League Talent from Major League Interchangeable Parts. I like Derek Holland, the guy is just so sincere and serious about his game, and I hope that whatever he needs to do, whatever hurdle he needs to climb to get there. I just wish he'd hurry up and get it done before my blood pressure activates.

Tunes are only too short when they're not long enough. -
Actually, from an old-school way of doing things, of learning by unceremoniously & repeatedly getting your ass handed to you, it's a very good idea, quite possibly the best possible idea. And from a new-school image=reality=career-builder POV, it's also a very good idea. Problem is, those two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other. And the fact that that's a "problem" instead of an obvious DUH to almost everybody in the world these days, that's the real problem, the result of some indeed very bad ideas very well executed.

A gratifying win tonight by the Rangers, but, really - did it have to be that hard? I don't think so. Derek Holland, who started out looking like he's mostly been looking lately, gets staked to a plush five run lead after two, then takes the mound for the third and suddenly loses the strike zone, never to get it back? HUH? To roughly quote Jo Stafford, what made you think that was a good decision? Anyway... Bright side - Feliz back, looking sharp, Julio Bourbon starting to look good at the plate, Muchael Young not being a defensive liability at second base (if I'm the still-anemic Ian Kinsler, I'm maybe wondering if I don't become tradeable for some pitching come That Time Of Year), Elvis's defense back on track, and the offense finally taking advantage of opportunities, avoiding the possibility of becoming a .500 team by EOB tomorrow. At best a "moral victory", that. At best. Down side - Cruz on 14 day DL, Ogando uncertain (last I heard) for tomorrow due to a blister. That sucks. Ogando has the skills, just needs the conditioning, and with his pitch count, he's getting it on the job. But if not him tomorrow, who? Dave Bush? Really? Yeah, possibly. Bush vs CC. Yippee!!!

Another no-hitter today, Justin Verlander.

Sports: 2009/10 NBA & NCAA Basketball Season
JSngry replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
If Dirk and his then-teammates would have played basketball instead of backstabbing the coach who was instilling winning basketball technique into him and his then-teammates, there would be no "revenge" needed. And the Mavs might well have had several rings by now. -
Outstanding, I think. That band could be on fire, and was here. Not so much Cecil Bridgewater, however, but still, when he's up, he don't suck, and that's when you can go ahead and shift the focus to Max, who on occasions like this was The Most Dangerous Drummer Who Ever Lived.

To elaborate, that's a very common rhythmic pattern/overall improvisational device used by Prez, definitely dating back to the JATP days, earlier than that, really, but really brought to the fore later on. In order for me to consider it a "quote" of "Evidence", I'd need to hear the pitches matching, which I don't. Also, "Evidence" plays with the implications of 3/4 phrases over a 4/4 beat, and what Prez is playing in those specific three notes is in 4/4. However, earlier in the excerpt he's toying with the 3-against-4 thing, but hell, Louis did that before either Prez or Monk.

Unless you're getting a different sample than I am, no.

Had a rare Friday night road gig last night, missed the game, sounds like Harrison was not nightmarishly bad, which is a "step" forward, but other than that...yuck. And the Angels beat the Indians.

Not a bad game for the Rangers, even if the outcome was...Colby Lewis looked fine, pitched the whole game, was a little sloppy early on and gave up 2, which as it turned out was more than enough for the M's, but he tightened up and got stronger as the game wen on,just like CJ did last night. Problem was, Jason Vargas was on his game, big time, and kept Rangers hitters off balance all night long. That's the second game this season where Ranger batters have shown themselves highly vulnerable against not so overpowering stuff delivered with great precision and equally great smarts. Kudos to Mr. Vargas. A second consecutive solid, not spectacular, start from a guy who last week was looking totally lost, the defense didn't look squirelly, the only thing missing was some offense, some runs, and a win. Can't get those every time out, though, and this was one of those games. Still, the team is now in sole possession of 2nd place in the division (that sucks) and continues the 2011 20 Games In 20 Days Tour by flying back 17-15 for a trio against the Yankees, starting with Matt Harrison, who has been looking like Lewis was looking until Sunday, only much, much much scarier badder... I say the team is .500 or worse by the end of that series, which is follower by another 3-gamer with the Angels, then, finally, a day off. But just one. Yankee fans get ready to feast on Harrison, for sure. And then maybe Holland, and then, maybe Ogando. Don't worry about your pitchers, the Rangers offense is not anywhere near in a groove right now. In spite of all this, though....there are so many things about this team that are about ,,,this far from clicking and coming together, and when they do, they will be grand. And yeah, I'm saying when not if, because some days I'm an optimist, some days I'm a fool, and some days I know what time it is, and no matter which kind of day it is, when sounds right to me.

"Why not?" that's what I'm thinking now. And boy, are there a lot of reasons. Almost as many as "Why?"
