  1. Give it time...
  2. Super Bowl? Yankees offseason? Tea Party?
  3. Laminated! Like a LP jacket condom, only built in!
  4. What step would that be?
  5. I didn't say me, nor did I mean me. But it happens to a lot of people when they start getting old. It will probably happen to you, and it will probably happen to me too.. Now, does your back cover of Sorcerer have an orange ring on it?
  6. These are a relatively recent phenomenon..at least relative to when I put one on Sorcerer...1979, maybe? No later than 1985. Hell, I don't know. I went from not caring to caring back to not caring. It's kind of a neat thing, though...kinda like an indelible mark that these records have lived with each other long enough that they've been marked for life by each other... An analog artifact on another analog artifact, which is as it should be, like wrinkles and grey hairs and toenails that don't grow right any more.
  7. There are a few (or more) American "institutions" about which I feel exactly the same way...

  9. ...from sitting next to Miles Smiles for so many years?
  10. Make that 5. Hope it's a character-builder. Bring on tomorrow.
  11. Holland found his zone, but not until giving up 3. Given that the Rangers haven't had a really strong offensive outing since Monday, that Kinsler & ANdrus have gone totally dead, and that Garcia pitched a freakin' old-school pro junkball-mixup masterpiece...oh well. Hope the weather clears for tomorrow. Ogando vs Sabbathia is very much a game I want to see pitched.
  12. But a loud bumblebee with gigs...
  13. Yeah, even running on fumes is still running, and it's not like this is a thing where you can call AAA to come get you started again. Records are only half (or less of the whole story for this type music & these type people.,.you need to see them in person to get a sense of their vibe, their aura, what it is that they are besides performers captured on a relative handful of recordings. The ration of music made "in person" to music made on/for recorded consumption is something that gets more and more overlooked as more and more of this generation dies and recordings are all we have left. If they really suck, just don't pay attention to that. Keep your eyes wide open and feel the vibe. It'll be a life lesson, maybe.
  14. I just don't get how "pour(ing) forth emotions" should be corny. I just don't get it, unless "passion" intrinsically = "corny", & the worlds I've visited where that is the case are worlds from which I've gotten the hell out of ASAP, if not sooner. Everywhere else, there's a range of possibilities that result from passion, and corny is only one of them.
  15. Not for being in a position to get 6 DPs in a game, which when you think about it is pretty, uh...not so good, but for having the presence of mind to keep focused, keep the ball down, make them hit ground balls, and let the infield do their job. A nicely poised pitching performance for a guy who was not as crisp as he was in his previous starts but still worked with what he had, as did the entire team. But GEEZ dude, work on that throw to second, ok? Elvis can't leap like that every time (at least not forever...). Still waiting for Kinsler & Andrus to get their bats going, and very curious/anxious about Holland tomorrow. The back three of the Rangers rotation has been a most pleasant surprise this (still young) year, and Ogando is looking like he just don't give a damn, ice water in his veins has he, but Holland is...pretty emotional sometimes. Tomorrow will be a big test for him, I think, to see if he's really stepping up to the next level or not. I'm saying my fingers and crossing my prayers... In the meantime, those Ranger fans who were in just a little too big of a hurry to deal Michael Young should just chill the hell out. Now that he's not an everyday defensive player/liability, and especially now that Hamilton is out, is there anybody we could have gotten for him that you'd rather have now? Not that I can think of.
  16. That I don't know right off hand, but hey... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLqiFNOJG_I This don't suck.

    Richard Raux?

Wow, that;s kinda painful, what with that rhythm section... Raux is heard to much better advantage on the Burrowes album, where he's got Mal Waldron comping behind him, and a repertoire more, uh, less, uh...well, you know... 1. Old Compton Street (R. Burrowes) 2. Hard Talk (M. Waldron) 3. Sometimes (R. Burrowes) 4. Jamaica (R. Burrowes) 5. Searching (R. Burrowes) 6. Sea Gulls (Mal Waldron) 7. Symphony In Blues (R. Burrowes) 8. Going Back Home (R. Burrowes) Roy Burrowes - trumpet, flugelhorn Richard Raux - tenor & soprano sax Mal Waldron - piano Patrice Caratini - bass George Brown - drums Roger Raspail - percussion on 4 & 8 Recorded live at jazz club Le Dreher, Paris, March 10, 1980 Marge 14

    Richard Raux?

Been listening to him on Roy Burrowes Sextet - Live At The Dreher and am really liking how he plays. Did a Google search, and wow, he pretty much sounds like he looks! A really nicely variated phases-of-strangulation tone, a fine rhythmic feel that puts his swing in sync with his tone, and a good ear for changes & possibilities therein. Anyway, this one album is the only place I've heard him, but it appears that he's been around for a while, so those who can sing his praises, please do!
