Hey, Bumgarner showed up in a BIG way. Fullest kudos and props to a young man who was impressive as hell. Tomorrow...I just asked my son what he wanted to do if the Rangers lost tomorrow night and he didn't hesitate in saying that he wanted to stick around for the post-game ceremonies because, "how often do you get to be in the stadium when a World Series champ gets crowned?" Right answer!

Another thing about this record - it walks the line between country and pop as tightly as anything I can think of. That's one of the most deceptively rigid lines in american popular music, always has been, always will be.

A little diffused in comparison to the BNs, due to the inclusion of some standards, but then again, maybe more varied than them because of that. Either way, it's Herbie Nichols in fine form. Buy with confidence!

Cheese? That organ is straight off a Dylan record, Gene sounds like the Everly Brothers combined, and Debbe has the Southern Copountry slightly sandy pout in her voice that...well, you know. Also, from a songwriting standpoint, the bridge is pretty interesting. The lyrics have a nice flow too, leading up to the outro very nicely. You great a whole story - very distinct beginning, middle, and end. And check out that drummer! And that stacatto-y picked 2nd rhtyhm guitar! The whole thing is pretty soulful, I think, in a Glen Campbell-esque type way. Just listen to the nuances of the vocals.

TOTALLY locked in... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sXOpGo5DP8&feature=related Can't say that I've heard any other Gene & Debbe song, or that I really want to, but this one is just plain wondermous.

Pretty nifty use of a Sly sample!

Yeah, I'm thinking Carter too...Persip is doing stuff like that all through this record. Pretty nifty that the producer let it ride. How many sides did Jules Colomby produce anyway?

Tell you what - when/if you get into the Birmingham airport, there's a "restaurant" called The Magic City. Have a camera handy for that one.

Nah, it wasn't the bucks, not at all. Got them thru Stub Hub & as a "contingent event" would get a CC refund if Game 5 didn't get played...it was just the whole vibe of maybe being able taking my son to see our team play in the World Series. For a chance like that, money is a secondary consideration (but a consideration nevertheless, as any ticket for the game, even SRO, this evening was not even remotely practical for us, even with a credit card). Of course, the possibility exists that we'll be going to a game that could see the Rangers lose the Series, but either way....Lee vs Lincecum with high stakes on the table no matter what...wow... We'll both have memories of that that should last a lifetime. Money well spent, imho. I am so freaking envious. On a completely unrelated note: My mother's new heartthrob is Buster Posey, I mean, head-over-heals in love... I feel blessed beyond description to have this opportunity. Still not sure I believe it's happening, and still won't believe that it did until it's over. I suppose your mom's crush on Buster is understandable, I mean, he's got that classic "baby face" that moms love, but I'll tell you what - me myself, I have developed a serious baseball-lovecrush for Colby MF-in Lewis. You talk about stepping up in the big game and getting it done, this guy....man, talk about a hero...

You know what i finally realized about Was this evening that should be obvious but in this day and age isn't? He ultimately puts the game in his players' hands & then...either you do or you don't, either you will or you won't. In an era of seemingly endless statistics governing damn near every aspect of our life, that's an almost dangerously funky old school way of looking at life, and especially at managing a baseball team. But if you're a player, and if you got skills and soul, I'd think that you gotta love being treated like a full grown man and not just a cog in somebody else's master plan. Take Darren O'Day - the guy had me ready to kill him, but...it's his gig, and after a couple of meltdowns, he comes in with two strong back-to-back appearances. Either you do or you don't, either you will or you won't. Because as does life, that's the way baseball go. Of course, even at that....WTF was Vlad doing trying to steal 2nd with two out? I mean - HUH?????

Same. You want to maybe learn some more, go here: http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~campber/parrot.html And maybe a LOT more, go here and start clicking: http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~campber/rsrf.html Allow plenty of time and stock up on prvisions in advance! -
Does anybody even have this record? I didn't really know about it until browsing through the selection of the last Newberry fire sale on amazon. Well, maybe I did, vaguely, but I think the presence of Joe Farrell made it seem less than "essential". Which it is, but it's still a goodfine side. Proof once again that there is life beyond Blue Note.

No, I'm not. It applies just fine to downtown Dallas. And actually, as the phrase was used by Stein, it applies to neither Ahmad Jamal nor downtown Dallas. http://www.tenderbuttons.com/gsonline/alice.html http://everything2.com/title/There%2527s+no+there+there -

I'm always bemused by the notion that the only "there" that exists is the one that any given individual or group can get to themselves. I mean, declaration of what something is worth to one's self is one thing, but denial of existence requires a certain, uh...presumptuousness. At best. -
You remind me of a Basie Roulette that wasn't included in the Mosaics -- "String Along With Basie" (Roulette 500013, from '59/'60). It was 'kind' without being weak in any way. Can't be weak with Ben Webster on one of the sessions! Admittedly, it wasn't with the band, but it WAS a Basie record, and a darn good one, that to my knowledge has never been on CD. Or has it? Anyone here know? Amazon Show the cover from that link, dude, that shirt is freakin' amazing...
-
WTF does that mean?
-
Yeah, by that time, the Basie band was making a lot of "polite" albums. Just goes to show the truth of the old adage "don't mistake my kindness for weakness"...
