  1. I used to have a great aunt (Evelyn) who lived in Des Moines. After the death of her husband (Elmo) when she was 65 or so, she relatively promptly married a man 20 years her junior (Julius). In all the years I knew any of them, politics never came up, so although there would indeed appear to be excitable wild passions in Des Moines, I have no reason to suspect that any of them would be political, except, of course, on an organized basis.
  2. I really dug what they were trying to do...
  3. Not too much about Jamal in there, eh?
  4. http://www.villagevoice.com/2010-10-13/music/ahmad-jamal-vindicated/
  5. Yes, but...the thing about uncharted territory is that nobody really knows where those signs are, or might be.... So far, so good. But so far ain't very far at all, not really. certainly not as far as 3-0 would have been.
  6. Looks like I mad a lot of observations and speculations this evening there were pretty much all wrong. Oh well! But still - that 1/18th if an inning of Friday night still leaves this a 2-1, not a 3-0 series, and that, Dear Friends, is a huge difference. You know that Yankee pride and depth of talent and resiliece and all that is going to have to kick in at some point. And you know that the Rangers are untested in these circumstances, so we really don't know what they have which to answer back when it does. Anything the Rangers do beside totally choke has me proud, but do they have that uber-killer instinct inside them that they gonna gotta have to deal with it when it comes? It's starting to look like they might, but the truth is, nobody really knows, least of all the Rangers - or the Yankees either, they seem to be realizing that maybe the Rangers are a little deeper an organization than they first considered, and this is what sports is all about - not winning and losing and scoring and fucking and drinking and all that boy shit - sports is ultimately about digging deep into yourself to see what you got when you need it, and what you do with what you find out when you go there. Go Rangers! Go THERE!
  7. Sorry, I hit the 8 key instead of the 9...
  8. This bottom of the 8th is gonna be nerve-wrecking (sic).
  9. Feliz can get jittery. This would not be the game to get jittery.
  10. Yeah, but neither are probably going nine, and whose pen do you like better? (rhetorical question, of course...)... here's hoping for a long top of the 7th.
  11. Well, there's your hit! Talk about gutcheck time, that'll be when the Rangers bullpen comes in. These Yankee bats have a lot of pent up tension in them... And as far as what you're listening to, Mr. Ghost, what did I tell ya'? (and thanks for the O-word, glad somebody noticed! )
  12. Now some fool behind Cano gets a cell call and starts waving. geez... sometimes I hate hi-def...
  13. Lee's throwing a lot more pitches in this game...doubt he'll go nine or that he'll remain unhittable forever... On the definite good side, that chick stopped smiling and waving. But she still glances occasionally...
  14. Well, it'll probably take more than 2 runs to win this game... But anybody notice the chick in the stands behind the right hand hitters? She got a call on her cell, probably telling her that she could be seen, and now she smiles for the camera and even waved onece. That'll get old quick...
  15. You must be hearing a differently defined "country" than any that I've ever been around, even loosely. But if you hear it, good for you! It's a nice enough piece, wouldn't want to take that away from it.

    John Engels

Who/which one is John Engles? And who are the other two besides LT & JK?
  17. No, it's Gratitude.
  18. Never paid attention to the albums, but the hits were prime. Maybe I should revisit. Just found this live clip, 70s attire aside, pretty damn fine:
  19. Can't say that the WB gets to me in any buy an "interesting", embryonic way. To me, Charles Stepney's input was the final "piece of the puzzle", and to that end, best overall album for me = That's The Way Of The World or Gratitude. But that's just me.
  20. Oh, it's cool,I dig clarinet, I've just got a reflexive cringe about it due to my total inability to play the thing worth even half a damn.
  21. Clarinet? Well, ok, count me in for a download.
  22. Thank goodness neither Leonard Feather nor John Hammond have ever had a chance of becoming members of this forum, then. Now THAT would have raised sumpin'! Probably not as much as you think...
  23. Who was the engineer on the Gulda date? Crenshaw was recorded remarkably well!
