computer question - need help!
JSngry replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
No system restore feature w/Windows 2000. That began w/XP... Your ISP might be providing you with a firewall through your modem. Call them & check, and also ask for help with this issue overall, since it seems to be related to the power outage. Perhaps something happened internally w/the modem hardware or software that is affecting cookie usage. The cookie/system restore issue is the most obvious problem/solution, beyond that, I'm not really qualified to offer any "confident" solutions, although no doubt plenty other people here are. But I still think it's something cookie-related, because that's how sites "remember" you. -
Speeding / Traffic Ticket Blues
JSngry replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've seen a direct correlation between increased fuel/energy costs & increased aggressiveness of speed patrols over the last two years locally. It has not been even remotely subtle. The city needs more money and we the citizens are a cash crop to be harvested as needed. -

That's Firefox. You might have a firewall or OS setting that's overriding those settings. -

First thing to do - Check your browser/firewall/etc security setting re: cookies. They need to be enabled. You might also want to try a system restore to a point before the power outage. -
The Hendrix election caused a serious (and seriously prolonged) crisis of uproar in the DB letters to the editor pages (aka Chords and Discords) when it happened. Pretty sure that Larry was still with the magazine then, maybe he has some recollections. By the time Zappa got in, the climate had changed considerably and not too may people freaked out, Zappa having been a regular in the pages of DB for the better part of his career. Then again, iirc, the first member of the DB HOF voted in by readers was Glenn Miller. So hey.

...I graduated high school with her! She was Joyce Timmons then. Check her out: Now, I'd be lying if i said that me, a white, middle-class Lutheran kid, grew up immersed in this type thing. But I'd also be lying if I said that it wasn't thick "in the air" in the late 1960s/early 1970s, what was for the area the early days of integration. Kids came to school with what they had at home, and this was very much a part of what some kids had at home, and you couldn't help but feel it, and after a while, accept it as part of your overall cultural environment, even if it wasn't directly yours. And yeah, I suppose that went into the heady, seemingly bottomless pit of musical influences that were all around us in those days... Here's a much longer clip of Joyce in action, probably too long (and/or too lots of other things...) for most people here, but still... : I literally just found out that Joyce Rodgers is/was Joyce Timmons, Gladewater High School Class of 1974. And damn am I proud! Believe me when I tell you that this mix of seriousness and entertainment and wink-wink is exactly who Joyce was then, and apparently who she still is. Say YES!

Don't laugh -- H. Mancini conducts T. Gibbs band
JSngry replied to Larry Kart's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I recall otherwise (it was nice but ultimately "Mancini-esque"), but I live closer to the equator than you do, so who knows how that factors into it. -
That's what I was referring to earlier.

Why am I not digging men's beach volleyball as much as I am women's beach volleyball? I mean, it's the same game and everything... -

homeboy does all that swimming too. You see the torsos on those guys? Even when I was a younger man & worked out, no way I got anywhere near that. Swimming, they say, is the perfect exercise. Can't say that I agree, but watching all those swimmers come out of their turns from the underwater cameras, there's plenty in common with what I do consider the perfect exercise, so maybe swimming is the perfect training for the perfect exercise. -
Is that Gallio? No. But it could be. There will always be a special place in my heart for the man who introduced me to McCormick vodka.

All the best & continued blessings!

Wow... I can hear Getz thinking about backing down, then realizing that with these guys behind him he'd look/sound like a total wuss if he did, and then going on ahead and digging in for some more. Life itself. whooooooOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh

Yes, I noticed that too. The coverage has been a little more rounded. I thought so. Makes for a much more enjoyable watch, I think. Not that I still don't Root For The Home Team, but anytime there's additional depth-of-story added, hey, that's a good thing. -

Yeah, at the end of the day, it's ultimately people doing what they do. Everything/anything else is a distraction. -

Anybody who likes this type of thing would probably dig some of the relatively "straight ahead" big band albums Mancini did over the years for RCA. I say relatively because it's all pretty "lush", even the swinging stuff, and nothing gets at all sweaty. But the textures are Mancini-esque all the way, and there's plenty of good soloing by cats like Plas Johnson & the Condolis & People Like That & Larry Bunker is often enough the drummer (I think). There's, like, 3-4 albums like this I think. Don't know how many, if any, are in print and/or readily available for sale. Check your Internets and proceed accordingly. -

That Soni lady last night, the swimmer, HOO BOY what a race she had. Exceptional! Stuff like that, somebody who just gives it all, leaves nothing behind, and beats the odds to win, how do you not like that? Is it just me, or is NBC's coverage this year not quite as Focused On America At The Expense Of EVERYBODY Else than it's been in the past? A question of degree, mind you...
