A wise choice, Niko! Also, try to find The Time and The Place on Landmark. Produced by Don Schlitten, intended for releasee on Muse, iirc, didn't make it out, sat in the can for years. But good stuff, same modal-ish/Afro-percussion (or as the kids like to call it today, "spiritual") leanings as these other two, Curtis Fuller's in the house, as are Stanley Cowell, Pat Martino, Sam Jones, Billy Higgins, & Mtume. Definitely worth hunting down, this one is.

Not a particularly good album, actually, but it made a little bit of noise back in the day, that and the earlier one, Jazz Blues Fusion, which also had Blue Mitchell & his twin brother Billy...

I don't know about the specifics of all this, but the thing that struck me was how he was almost literally dancing on the pedals, which would mean that the better he danced, the better the groove, which seems more than a little "as it should be" to me, if you know what I mean...

They've made the socks drinkable now? That might not work out too well...

was pretty surprised when i looked at the line-up of a diana krall cd (which my girlfiend had gotten fom one of her colleagues who tried to convince her that jazz is not crap... not mine) and noted charles owens name in there... Charles Owens was also with Buddy Rich in the Pacific Jazz days & with John Mayall in the Blue Mitchell days.

Love The Gap Sealer myself & am very fond of the other. The Time and The Place on Landmark fits right in there too for a very nice trifecta.

Mr. Chu, I'm taking you for money on this, so please answer carefully - if The Generation Band was a 70s or 80s TV show hottie, who would it be, and would it be her by day, by night, or by late night thru just before the dawn early morning, if you know what I mean. I'm actually thinking about checking out some of their albums and need your opinion to confirm my leanings. I want some music with some curves in the right places at the right times. And yes, I am serious.

I'd get it for $8.00, but not too much more. A lot of "show" in the playing, but enough "tell" not to overlook it entirely. Then again, if you really need that $8.00 right now... Definitely "auxillary" recordings in both men's oeuvre, not in any way essential. I do, however, remember the Polydor side as being more engaging on all fronts than the Columbia.

Yeah, but keep away from Echoes Of An Era 2, a live set where Nancy Wilson takes over from Chaka. Not a good deal for anybody in any way. And if you're really anal about "sound quality" GP2 might prove a little problematic, iirc. It's a board tape or something I think, not uber-HiFi. But more than fine enough for me. As mentioned earlier, the gentlemen came to play.

First heard him on that Sonny Period/EverestArchive side, took a few years to find out who it was, but yeah, none of the other "hyper fluent" trombonists of the era ever hit me like Cleveland did. He just had that thing. Or at least the version of it that I felt the most. Well, ok, Knepper did, but I don't think that's the same thing, strictly speaking in trombone terms. Can't be sad about this though. Guy played his ass of for decades, afaik didn't end up destitute or anything, and then he died. The last thing is something we all gonna do, not so the first two. So Hip hip HOORAY for Jimmy M-F-in' CLEVELAND, y'all, who won at life. Save the tears for those who didn't, don't, and won't.
