  1. Ok, Nat, live, quartet, 1953. He had really just begun (relatively) to penetrate the mainstream pop market, but it definitely had begun. "Unforgettable" was 1952, and then "Pretend" hit in 1953. After that... This should be an interesting set, possibly quite transitional in terms of repertoire and presentation. I hope that they are able to include between-song patter, such as exists. I'm interested, for sure!
  2. Fine music, but - is it just where I'm sitting right now, or is Cook pulled back in the mix just a little, and the bassists boosted up to the front?
  3. I'd be more in if they included a DVD with the film footage that also exists.
  4. Do you know that Dorn made that decision unilaterally?
  5. Link, please. Hoping for Thom's triumph, but Plan B, always.
  6. 1953...probably not trio? That might be even more interesting!
  7. That's a really good record.
  8. Chitter McPhilliken - Get Over Here Right Now!!!
  9. My only possible qualm is the possibility that there will be more set pieces and not so much Tatum zoning out into his secret world. But that's the risk you run with Tatum, especially trio.
  10. All the duets of these two that I've heard have been inspirational.
  11. Ten Years Hence is really good and this is two years earlier!
  12. Them songs is awfully short?
  13. Sorry, I forgot about Joe Harris also being there.
  14. One of my retirement projects has been binge watching as many 1950s/60s TV Westerns as I can find. The two I'm doing right now are Rawhide & Gunsmoke, and both take a surprisingly nuanced of the post-Civil War landscape of Native Americans and their attempts to deal with "the White Man" and the behavior of same. Both Matt Dillon and Pete Nolan understand what's going on and are often quite candid about it. They're not exactly flawless characters, but they're hardly fodder for the current insistence on some quarters on Greatness either. Not sure if THOSE shows could get made today, not like this.
  15. But is it MAX or is it TCM? Because again, TCM offering a pre-movie blah blah critical appraisal/historical background is not anything unusual. Not at all.
  16. Except the Aix-en-Provance thing, which is Kenny Clarke. And is also superb!
  17. A Fathead/Hank Crawford Atlantic set might be nice.
  18. Are they showing this on TCM? If so, don't they often provide a spoken intro to their showings?
  19. The Bad Shepherd - Come Stray With Me
  20. Is this a children's record?
  21. How so? Which one has better sound? Just kidding. We dropped our "movie package" from our cable package in favor of MAX. It's got TCM and a bunch of other neat stuff besides HBO. Once we did that, our HBO On The Go stopped working, but I wasn't sure if it did because we no longer had HBO on the cable or whether or not they just killed it period.
  22. Ok then, three people to do a grand each. Then we can get 3D AI Surround sound.

  24. Except on cable, right?
