  2. A lost porno soundtrack from Bernard "Pretty" Purdie -- and one of his greatest records ever! The album's amazing -- a sweet batch of soulful funk, almost better put together than any of Purdie's more famous albums for Flying Dutchman or Prestige -- with a mix of tight drums, sweet electric piano, and even some occasional lead vocals from Sandi Hewitt -- who really adds a lot to the record! The album's got some monster funky cuts -- the most noteworthy of which is "Hap'nin", a mad break track that really has Bernard going crazy on the drums! Other cuts include "Pass Me Not", "Lialeh", "Touch Me Again", "Conscious", and "Easy". http://www.dustygroove.com/jazzlp4.htm#65998
  3. Get ready to perform the Magic Ritual!
  4. And it works both ways. Remember, Mamma's got a squeeze box and Daddy never sleeps at night.
  5. Looks like it's got p'tenshull
  6. Ok, this record might not meet with everybody's "approval", but I'm here to tell you that some of the VERY best playing that Woody Shaw ever commited to recording, regardless of context, is on Harry Whitaker's BLACK RENNAISANCE. Rarely has he sounded so fully like the King he was. The record itself has gotten mixed reviews from some of our contingent back on Board Krypton (I myself dig it very much), but I'm not talking about the record here, I'm just talking about Woody. My Sweet Jesus, what he plays on that album! Readily available on finer Internets everywhere:
  7. Maybe it's not anybody of note? Seriously - it looks like a kid to me.
  8. Next to none of them are. AND - they're almost all scans off eBay, so their life is limited. If you like one, save it. Also, on that Ammons thing, the little "The Master of the Tenor Sax" thing on the label strikes me as an indicator of just how truly popular Jug was once upon a time. Bet Prestige never put anything like that on a Rollins or Trane label. It's kinda touching really, because Ammons had a HUGE following, especially in the 50s, but the "real" jazz world hardly noticed. But seemingly insignificant things like a few words on a label help keep the truth alive.
  9. Listening to it!
  10. A REALLY young Joe Newman, maybe?
  11. Sorry, man - this is a LOUSY photo, but it's all I could find. You really have to see it up close. That's enough for one day!
  12. I can tell!
  13. A typical after-the-liquor-store-hold-ups jam session.
  14. It indeed takes a villiage to raise a child, but it takes a jazz band to collectively lose a paternity suit!
  15. Genereic, but I'd never seen it before
  16. Shouldn't that be "A JAZZ TOUR OF THE NATO COUNTRIES' JAILS"?
  17. Mmmmmm...REAL trouble...
  18. Cool photo, eh?
  19. Yeah. Go get in line with Charlie Weaver.
