  1. Hey, anybody who calls out a deal without taking advantage of it themselves is aces in my book! And it was Chuck who brought Horenstein onto my radar to begin with...knowing who to pay attention to is important in this life!!!
  2. Thanks to both of you. Enjoying it now, in the privacy and comfort of my own home.
  3. The man needed to dance!

  5. Did John Gilmore ever work with Monk?

    Guy Lafitte

    Lots of records mentioned here!
  7. Why, are they going to jail again?
  8. Threadgill doesn't play on this one, he "just" conducts. But that's no doubt necessary. Besides, it's a really expert group of players he's got here. I wonder if a video of this will come out at some point. I'd love to see the entire multimedia presentation!

    Sir John Betjeman

Any intersection with the Bonzos at any point?
  10. Got mine late last week. It's a pretty hefty volume.
  11. Did you spring for the autographed copy?
  12. Just came today. Wow. So much music. New music. Real music. Great music! How about kudos to Pi Records for continuing to facilitate Henry Threadgill. They are doing God's Work.
  13. The Dawn record is a real sleeper.
  14. Well, you're in Ohio, so Cleveland is right there!
  15. Began reading this and it's a real treat. Loving how the chapters are broken into a lot of small vignettes, always with a beginning, middle, and end. Makes for perfect spurt reading when necessary, as well as more sustained reading when possible. And the vignettes often end in such a way that leaves the bigger truths unsaid but not unheard.
  16. No, didn't learn anything new (except maybe just how MUCH of a hustler he was by nature), but putting it all together linearly like this made for a good read, awkward-to-maddeningly wrong moments not withstanding. This guy was truly seat of the pants and following the narrative straight through like this really vivified it for me.
  17. Randy Weston, at least.
  18. I enjoyed reading this book and feel that I now have a better/deeper understanding of Ayler's arcs than before.
  19. The only problem I run into with Rouse is that he kept playing after he ran out of ideas. And then he still played some more. And then yet some more! But really, that was Monk's fault. It was his band. That's what makes that high school record so good, they hit it and quit it with nothing wasted.
