  1. It's on Netflix. It's got subtitles. And perhaps it transcends the genre. But even if it doesn't, damn is it bingealiciously epic!
  2. Mosaic Eddie Harris VeeJay + Columbia would be something I would buy.
  3. oh yeah - Heiner Stadler.
  4. Excellent, just light. Maybe it's a recording thing. I'd just like more presence to come out of the record.
  5. We might not....I've always had a strong preference for The Jumpin' Blues, as well as the two "Power" records. I like The Panther just fine, but for some reason the rhythm section seems a little light to me. Oh, and The Chase with Gene Ammons. But those 70s Prestiges...those are not the best.
  6. Dexter was making superior records for Steeplechase at the same time. But his Prestige records....not so much. The session with Freddie Hubbard is a little better, but....
  7. They're far from top-shelf Dexter, but the other players are excellent. That's Stanley Clarke on bass, btw.
  8. It's jazz as repertory music, not jsut in terms of song selection, but also as soloist. It's really not that much different than a Classical player being able to perform a recital of a variety of musics. EXCEPT - Jazz was not created to be this, Jazz was created for people to find THEIR voices. That's a major difference imo, and also a deal-breaker as to what I would want to support in any way. If you want to hear the originals, play records. And if you want to hear live jazz, try to find somebody who's not doing this. Find somebody who is at least trying to play their own way. I would hope that this Aaron West guy is a fully skilled musician who is doing this gig because, hey, it's a gig, right? And I hope that whatever his real thing is gets some exposure as a result of this visibility. And what I REALLY hope is that "in the role of" just means that he's going to play the solos in his own way rather than just the original solos by rote.
  9. Frisky Delatine - All The Way In!!!

  11. Now I see why they went from 65 to 66 and then stopped!
  12. as said by Kai Oh Ti.
  13. Hunt Peters | Discography | Discogs Huh!
  14. Laps are sensitive areas!!!!!
  15. OUCH!!!!!
  16. Thad's on that Dexter Gordon Prestige session that was spread out over two LPs. I think his playing is a lot more on point than Dexter's to be honest.
  17. I have an original Atlantic. It sounds like it. Not bad at all, and great music. Works for me!
  18. A long time favorite here!
  19. It's a reissue of sorts
  20. The record itself is very old. But - the recording that contains it is not even two years old. That can be construed as a hint
  21. Thanks for listening, thinking, and commenting. Always a pleasure!
  22. There ya' go! A contrast-and-compare of the original performance with this... reimagining might be instructive for anybody who's curious about such things. What they did here is waaaay above the norm as far as this type of thing goes
  23. I have bad French, sorry. It is a Shoe Song, however, and from the same time frame.
  24. Oh. Brazilia '67. See, that's how they get you Possibly the same record?
