Honestly. Carla always hits for me. She's worked across a lot of superficial terrain, but underneath it is always Carla Bley, figuring out different ways to get to an audience and still keep true to herself.
I believe that she will only grow in esteem as time passes, and people start looking at Carla Bley instead of periods and styles and shit. THAT stuff is immensely fluid. The one constant has been Carla Bley.
Pretty invigorating first week. Thanks to all for your participation!
Still a few things waiting to be identified, and, of course, always room for further discussion, thoughts, etc.
I knew enough/most of the songs (and had enough of the 45s) that I saw no need. Still don't really. It's one of those things that once you get it, you got it. And hearing that stuff on the Top 40 in real time...I got it.
What are all those records that look like Cornohologica Classics but they aren't? Are they an acceptable substitute? And are there as many of these as there were of those?
Not a favorite of mine, but that's a matter of taste.
Objectively, she had serious skills and made a real contribution.
She should have been tapped to do a Sarah Palin. she had the face.
RIP
