Ike Quebec was a baaaaad man. I have yet to hear anything of his playing that did not start as a total groove and never do anything but get groovier as it went along.
I'll never forget the description of him as "a pool hall motherfucker" made by somebody who knew exactly what he was saying. He meant it as a supreme compliment!
There was more to them than just the hits, namely a very keen humor and ears to match.
RIP, and I will always laugh with you, not at you (except for that "Magdalena" thing....)
Ok folks, our forum protocols is that we don't bitch about a seller's asking price. Period
If the price is met, good for the seller. If it is not, then message sent.
Either way, the asking price is entirely the seller's prerogative.
Brantford had a very pleasant and well-rounded set to end the evening. I ended up enjoying it much more than I anticipated, maybe because I was there at least as much for the festival experience as for serious listening. Probably more.
Let me put it this way - I would not pay serious money to hear them, but outdoors on a beautiful night, at no charge? Yeah.sure! And thank you!
Omar Sosa had a pretty interesting compositional thing going on. Plus he played with a LOT of dynamics, very much appreciated! A bit of acoustic Zawinul/Shorter vibe going on but not excessive.
Very enjoyable!
Go see Lakecia Benjamin, yes. She's young, she can play, and she's bursting with Positive People Energy. There's no guarantee that any of that keeps getting better. It very well might but...
See her now and take the whole damn family!
