A really good and accurate Bluto laugh, that's what. I tried to do one today, and came close, real close, but a close Bluto laugh just drives home its inadequacy. If you can't hit it, you oughta just quit it, that's my takeaway. But you gotta be ready to be brutally (or, Blutolly) honest with yourself about yourself. Anything else?

Johnny Richards - Rare Alternate Arrangement of Omo Ado

Oh, he always had great bands. Always. Pretty much had to, those were hard charts, especially from a blending standpoint. Couldn't get a band full of just soloists and make it work. -

Neither for me. full of sound and fury, signifying nothing afaic. Not even a Jetsons sex image, Now, if Richards had done a record that would have alluded to Rob/Laura/Jane (instead of George/Jane/Rosie), then I would re-evaluate. But that chance has come and gone. -

As for "why"....I'm reminded of the old joke with the punchline "must be shit, sure glad we didn't step in it!" I mean, it's obvious. They don't care. Even looking for/entertaining a buyer would take effort, and effort is an indicator of caring. -

The only Kenton/Richards I can get with is Adventures In Time, and that's just because of the speed-fueled spaceships buzzing around my alien-abducted fever dream energy.Like if George & Jane had a three-way with Rosie and Rosie short-circuited from all the bodily fluids and then everybody got electrocuted and they just kept going. That's not a particularly...appealing image, but it is an interesting one to ponder during that record. What REALLY turned me against Richards was a little while back when I got into Boyd Raeburn, whose "3rd Phase" (and raeburn, like Kento, was good/bad about hiring arrangers to mae the band, rather than hiring arrangers to write for the band). I was thinking, ok, maybe HERE is where we get the good stuff, but no, Richards' charts were THE WROST. Showiy but corny as fuck, like, ok, I don't care how fancy you get about it, corn is corn. Cheap perfume doesn't smell better when you use more of it, nor does after-shave, for that matter. Ask yu Dad (or your dad's wife...or somebody). So after that...I got no use for the guy no more, life is short. Or, life is long, but it don't need to be THAT long. -

It's not unlike "Electric Miles"...the "format" is what changes, the playing, not so much. If you're really looking to dive in even a little, just go for what looks good, band, repertoire, whatever. -

You should ask them, maybe they understand it, or can pretend to. Me, I don't get it either, but not too much I can do about it except just keep gangsterin that shit. Like I said, if you want to know why, ask the people who would know. That ain't us here. We all know what we need to do. -

so why point it out if you don't care? I don't get it. As for Mosaic's bargaining power...they are leasing the material, not buying it. Not sure under what business structure that gives them any more leverage than they've already used. -

He plays the tunes. He doesn't really display an interest in using anybody's phraseology or architecture but his own. So it's just one more statement of overriding principal being applied to any damn underlying structural construct that he feels like working with. It's only "complicated" when you want it to be something it has not interest in being, like, "songs". For that, there's plenty of other people, many of them already dead. -
What would be cool would be to get 10" Tone Poets of the original Pacific Jazz LPs.

It might be an urban legend, but it does seem that today's (and I'm going back at least 25 years for "today", LOL) pop music is tailored for "music on the go" in terms of EQ curves, compression, stuff like that. Perfectly logical, and here we go again, the 45s of yesteryear were very much mixed and mastered to sound good coming out of a transistor radio and an AM car radio. And they too sound good on a regular system. But they sound more "correct" coming out of those things, and jukeboxes as well. Pop music has always been about the product delivering the experience to the most people on the most impactful manner for where those people are most likely to be. Is it possible to get a smaller speaker than an earbud? So....mis for the earbud, and just make sure it toes sound like TOTAL crap when played on a real hi-fi record player stereo system.

Of course I watched those shows, and of course I knew then that it was a different bag. I watched Jonny Quest EVERY Saturday AM. Look, I was born in 1955, and we were the proud owner of a Zenith. The TV in our house was always on. Irving Levin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_De_Lyon but Maurice Gosfield did Benny... -

Are you old enough to have seen Flinstones/Jetsons/Top Cat in Prime Time? Or Huckleberry Hound/Yogi Bear in more or less first run, actually sponsored by Kellogg's? When I say that I heard all this stuff day and night, I mean exactly that. If so, then ok, glad you survived, if nothing else. Full Props to Hoyt Curtin (and his hot step-sister Jane), but, really no appetite here for more, the cartoons or the music. had it, picture sleeve and all. -
With, but only if they are Certified Horsehair-Free. Nevertheless, the Stravinsky stuff on Disc Two is pretty damn meaty!

I did not. I grew up with a steady diet of Hanna-Barbera, literally day and night, so...I get it already. -

I'll listen to the Jonny Quest theme once or twice a year and then I've had enough. -
You mean like an AM radio in you car playing 45s that the station was playing on a turntable that sent the signal out through the air as an analog signal? If so, then hell yeah! The the whole FM thing hot real, and I have no idea what that was all about.
