  2. I don't know which broadcasts these are, but the ones on the Everybody's LP I showed above are quite elevating. And sorry, I'm saying 1943, should be 1944. But yes, extremely elevational music. Maybe it was a good night, but if so, it was a damn good night. Check it out, copies are still available at quite reasonable prices, and not also the documentation of the transition form Jo Jones to Shadow Wilson: But there are airshots aplenty from earlier, from 1938-ish, here's one: https://www.amazon.com/Count-Basie-Live-1938-Famous/dp/B0011D9O2K there are surely others...I had a friend collate them all of which they were aware, and it's like, 3 full CDs worth. Sound quality does indeed vary, but hell, it's never so bad that the shit don't do what it do.
  3. Find the 1943 airshots with Pres back in the band for a quick minute..i guess look for this lp? There's more of this type thing out there, but i have no idea where it all is...

  5. These too are obvious audience recordings with crappy fidelity, but are damn near essential documents of the TRUE last days of Ellington.

  7. No idea where the broadcasts are now, or if they've been bundled at all, but that is definitely where to go next. There's a relative buttload, and many are magic.

  11. Pretty sure they are the greyest shade of grey, but they have some very interesting Ellington things.

  14. What I like about Crown is that, let's say that you want a Stan Getz album cover for your dorm room wall but you don't want a record with stan Getz on it, hey, Crown can do that for you.

  16. I like it. although I must say, I might have preferred his orchestrations had they been for his electronic instruments...more colors available (at least with his abilities). But this works too.
  17. Well, there is a sonic "disconnect" between Ayers and the tracks, but I think that's built in to this type of thing, part of the overall intent, it's like, no sense making it sound like everybody's all in a club pumping fists and yelling and stomping if "jazz is dead", right? So this is like, Gary Bartz is NOT dead, so let's get him tp apparate where we can get him in. Indeed, not for everybody, and not a record I would think to make, but now that it was, ok then, I can dig it.
  18. When you do the work and have your head totally straight about what you're doing, it often is! It's getting to that point that takes people out...
  19. If you are interested/favorable to in those names, then yeah, c'mon in, the water's fine! For anybody not knowing those names and are looking for a "regular" Gary Bartz record, uh, maybe not so much. Otherwise, hey, Jazz continues to be dead, LOL!

  22. Ah, ok, looks like it's a "Vol 2" of the set that DG already has, also a Cherry Red product, it turns out: https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/id-love-to-turn-you-on-classical-and-avant-garde-music-that-inspired-the-counter-culture-various-artists-3cd/ The premise here for both may or may not be a bit or more contrived (that would depend on the depth of the annotation), but either way, you're getting some (mostly) good music that could/should stimulate further explorations. Or not. Actually, this new set seems to be a little meatier. Here's the contents of the first compilation: DISC ONE THE BEATLES 1.
