  1. Joe asks a student at a high school workshop in Galveston how playing the music made him feel. “Like chocolate milk.” Joe asks, “You felt like you were drinking chocolate milk?” The kid says, “I was the chocolate milk.” LOL!!!!
  2. I'll always remember this one as the one that made all but the most adamant Jarrett fans, say uh....REALLY?
  3. Maybe they don't want to sell but a few so they don't have to make but a few.
  4. I have a Bartok Records LP that is pretty thick, but not THIS thick (it's also the quietest vinyl I've ever gotten, including the OG German ECMs). Maybe a few early Columbia classical LPs (both 10" and 12") that are pretty thick but again, not THIS thick. That Ross Russell was a maniac! I wonder if the thickness of these first LPs was designed to bolster the "non-breakable" claims. If I had a backup of this thing, I'd wager that it would be the one doing the breaking, not the other way around!
  5. Will somebody please establish a contact with Bill Barron's widow (if she's still alive) to get a handle on how much archival material she does or does not hold?
  6. This opera stuff ain't so bad after all.
  7. There ya' go. A lot of career decisions can be traced to the need for cash.
  8. Item arrived yesterday (Dial 4, green cover), and as you say, heavy as a rock, not just the vinyl, but the cardboard too. Really, the package felt like an order of 5-6 LPS, I was wondering what order I had forgotten, and then open it up, and it's JUST ONE RECORD!!!!!

  10. Did they pay him in cash?
  11. Rising and shining, but at a natural pace.
  12. Also, I believe that Eddie Harris had long standing IRS issues in the wake of Exodus. At some point, I think he he got it all paid off, but even so, smaller gigs in foreign countries, hey ,better cash flow, less of a paper trail, I would totally get that.
  13. How about that Horace Parlan record on Steeplechase where the front line of Thad Jones and Eddie Harris? Serendipitous!
  14. Up, if only to say "Alfred Sack"!
  15. The Midnight Mover John and Martin Bekins Abraham, Martin, & John
  16. All right! Music to move by (if not to)!
  17. On the subject of Eddie Harris in the 80s and beyond, yes he remained active, yes there's a good number of recordings, and yes, they're pretty much all worth checking out. For instance:
  18. Ok, let's imagine a parallel past where Gil Evans and Phillip Glass had worked together and Miles was able to morph his way with slow lines and bracing intervals into soprano/alto classical vocals...or even better, don't bother imagining anything, there's a record right here for anybody to hear.
  19. Ok kids, we have songs again. Probably not gonna be on the radioboxes, but that's ok, this is good stuff, a two-way street between tomorrow and today, musically and lyrically. Songs again! https://tedhearne.bandcamp.com/album/place http://www.tedhearne.com/discog-blog/2020/4/4/place-2020
  20. I wonder what Eno would do producing a straight jazz record? Why would anybody even think that?
  21. The presence of McCoy makes a difference!

  24. Yeah, it's not "new music" when it does that, is it... it's popular music, no matter how small the audience is.
  25. https://youtu.be/2EgD2yU15VM Eddie Harris was a basaaad man
