  5. What is it that is turning you all off of the delicious intrinsicality of the V-8 juice. Is it the watercress?
  6. Bertha Hope still awaits a broader recognition, and this is as good a place to start as any!
  7. It's not an intrinsically "fluid" instrument to play fluent bebop lines on (or wasn't, until enough people showed that it could be done, but that came later), and considering the lifestyle of the time, are you going to carry a tuba around all day and night looking for the next jam session?
  8. Well....yeah. I saw that you said "John Patton" was on piano and, you know, I was like John Patton??? You've been kind enough to have kept be updated on your Percy Project, and let's just say...the outside world is in for a treat when it finally drops, an unexpected delight that has been "hiding in plain sight" for all these years.

  15. Hemphill did not make it out of the 20th Century. Most of his contemporaries did/have. Name recognition and marketplace visibility/viability being what it is, I hope/pray that his body of work is not slowly being forgotten, It's too substantial to let that happen.

  19. Yeah, I figured that much... What is the "Codex Chantilly", that's what I don't know and didn't want to look up in Wikipedia, but now I will...is it of any real significance/importance? Or is it just old? Looks like it predicts George Crumb, though! Nothing new under the sun indeed!
  20. What is this, exactly? Figures of Harmony: Songs of the Codex Chantilly, c.1390 Description Complete recording of one of the manuscripts, kept today at the Château de Chantilly museum in France. Forty-four titles, featuring works by Senleches, Ciconia, De Caserta, Suzoy et al. (Ferrara Ensemble/ Crawford Young. Recorded 1994-2009. Total time: 260') I mean, I can read the words, but what do they mean? https://www.broinc.com/media/cd/figures-of-harmony-songs-of-codex-chantilly-c-1390/
  21. Billy will keep you busy for a while! As long as you're tracking, track down Hot Line, a Bill Barron album on Savoy where he shares the front line with Booker. Excellent stuff.
  22. Sir Topham Hatt Lady Elaine Fairchilde King Loopy
  23. I've enjoyed Mark De Clive-Lowe for a good while now, so yeah. Haven't heard Garcia in her regular setting (whatever that may be), but she sounds like she can play, yeah.
