COVID-19 2.0: No Politics edition
JSngry replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Speculative sociology with potentially political overtones, not really what this thread is here for. We all have our worries, we all have our fears. Save them for Facebook, please. -
That's what I was thinking. DJs and bookers. Or maybe as a medium of exchange to assist in procuring, uh…"creature comforts"... I do like how Shelley Manne says "Hi", he doesn't just sign his name, he also greets you. Hi!

Mosaic LP Box Sets On Acoustic Sounds
JSngry replied to Dave James's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
"Pre-" the prefix and "Previously" the adverb do not mean the same thing! I mean, there's language as play, as poetry, as physical/mental sound, but there's still language as a means of communicating specific notions and realities, a means of defining "truth". A blurring of the language intended to lull consumers into the cloudy complacency of mental atrophy is certainly to be expected, but it is precisely because of its inevitability that it should constantly be called out. It is but one tool of the predator. -

https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2013/07/pre-owned.html Something truly "preowned" would be something that had not yet been owned, which in the most generous meaning would mean brand new (although, not really because ownership is assumed to be with the manufacturer until they sell it, correct?). -

For the duration, as determined by provably consistently reliable science and medicine data, as spoken with an unquestionably independent confidence. -

So far, so good...which kinda worries me, to be honest. I'll gladly trade a slower, safer warehouse environment for a slower delivery, even a hold on delivering some things. It's not like I need all this shit. But them peeps need gigs too, so...I don't know. I just don't know. Who you gonna trust to do the right thing, other than yourself? and then, you can only use the data at hand...

Yeah, Dr. Birx (and she DOES dress well, I think we can all agree on that, and I thank her for bringing color and shape to an otherwise drab and shapeless podium every day) made the point that the only tool we have at our disposal to alter the course of this thing is behavior - our own behavior. Total prevention is not the objective of social distancing. Total prevention would require a TOTAL lockdown, like you go in and you don't come out for anything. Either that or just everybody get out in the open, let the thing run its course, only the strong survive, EVERYBODY else dies. Yuck. Social distancing is simply the best way to hedge your bets. You don't just open your door to the damn thing, you keep it back, and you take responsible action afterwards, just in case. Basic math, really. I get that it's not what we're "used to", but unless/until this goes past any reasonable stage of virus spread, oh fucking well. Life is not always convenient, and a diseased population ain't exactly gonna have all that "freedom" anyway, right? Let's just do this thing. -
Well, Kenton gonna Kenton, always. But on this record, that's a GOOD thing, and hell yeah, play it loud. PLAY IT VERY LOUD. and seriously - play it loud. It was louder than fuck in person, trust me, quite possible louder than anything your record player can do. But it was a clean loud, because it was all acoustic instruments, all of them. All acoustic instruments played loudly by people who knew how to do that without distorting the sound. And that's pretty much true of all Kenton - however variable the quality of the writing is, and however variable the "jazz quotient" (whatever that means, except it's noticeable in its absence more than in its presence), that shit is always executed with the highest skill. I might have forgotten to say this, but, yeah - play it loud. Dick Shearer has a trombone section just waiting for you to do that. Don't disappoint him.

That one deserves a mention on your 70s blog somehow/somewhere...a strong album by any standard and very influential in a lot of ways in its own parallel universe...

Ok, so I'm fully prepared to listen to this for archival/historical/etc reasons, and it kinda starts out that way, but soon enough....it comes alive. Still. 50+ years later, there's living spirit in this music that transcends time/place/people. At least it does for me.

Dude, that's just nuts! MASSIVE score!!! Now I'm wondering where the others went??? Or where this one went in the first place? It's not a mystery solved, now it's a mystery confirmed!!! -
C=3 T=20 I = 9 Therefore CTi = 32 L = 12 R = 18 G = 7 Therefore LRG = 37 (the double minuses multiply into a positive_ Therefore LRG > CTI by 5 per: https://affinitynumerology.com/number-meanings/number-5-meaning.php The numerology number 5 is a number that expresses its sense of personal freedom. There's no fixed foundation for the 5; it would be contrary to its vibration. The 5 may be doing something and be intensely interested in it, and the next moment be interested in something else entirely and immediately pursue the new interest. The number 5 is curious and interested in pretty much everything. 5 is sensual, sensing life and its various intensities and vibrations as it flows through 5's essence. 5 experiences what interests it by observing and feeling and interacting with full focus — while it's still interested. A person with a 5 in a prominent position generally is comfortable interacting with others. So if you ever need to borrow money at the bank, show them this.

Yep! Saved the company! Hope he does as well saving America!

Did you build a Chrysler while the records played?

Telarc, what jazz sessions from this label do you enjoy?
JSngry replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
I dunno, there were some things w/Moody that were good to have, but overall, I never had a feel for their sound...not the music as much as the recording. Seemed too damn clean, transparent, whatever. After a few tries, I just said fuck it, those records are for somebody else. Same thing with the few classical records of theirs that I've heard, there's no "there" there, as was said once, and then often thereafter. -
You're both wrong!

I know nothing about that Columbia Records Gavin Gordon other than this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Gordon_(composer) It's a nice enough piece, just as the record is a nice enough record. Nice enough... There are other Gavin Gordons, though, and not just that one one the electrohousetrancedance record: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Gordon But hey, maybe "Gavin Gordon" is the name of a mysterious spirit that keeps itself alive in random bodies all over the English-speaking world. Who knows, one day you - or I - could wake up and be Gavin Gordon. The speeds of our constructional molecules being what they are these days, I'd be ready for anything!
