The Manne date above...closer to a Woody Shaw record than it is anything else...and in 1969, wow. Was Woody out there then? Seems like he was? Even if not, these people were hearing along the lines of what he was hearing. That, and one more piece of Don Ellis Overflow. The two other records by the Manne/Gross/Barone band (Mannekind & Alive In London...are there any more?) come nowhere near this one, in any regard. What a find! And never on CD, correct? One more piece of the puzzle.

Here's another one nobody ever told me about...

“It’s one thing to steal signs with your eyes. We all do that. It’s another to do it electronically, and that’s what they’ve been doing." Uh, yeah, sure. It's not cheating if it's not done electronically....ok...better lock up those robo-umps unless and until they can be made AT LEAST as tamper-proof as electronic voting machines, because god knows you can't cheat with those! We should expect no less, and probably much more, from our robo-umps. And all the Beaucoup Bucks these other teams are wanting to collect from the Astros, they're a-gonna divvy that up amongst their players in the form of Thank You For Not Cheating! bonuses, I'm sure. Better yet, legalize electronic sign stealing. There's a talent to that, why does baseball want to exclude talent sets, are they Institutionally Technophobic? E-sports are the future, c'mon MLB, lead the way like you always do, Save The Humans before it's too late! One big clownshow, all of it. ALL of it.

Nah, some place in Santa Fe. I was living in Albuquerque then. Same band that was on Dimensions with Terrence Blanchard added. Damn good group live, at least that night.

That sounds like a deal I can make, thanks!

Hey, Ron McClure played with Charles Lloyd 50 years ago, and Maynard Ferguson more than 50 years ago. And Ronnie Cuber played with Ron McClure with Maynard more than 50 years ago. And quite nicely! So let's not be talking shit about 50 years ago, ok? Instead let's talk shit about how if ANY of these motherfuckers are buried in black, or wear black to one of the others's funerals, hey, fuck them and fuck wearing so much black on so may album covers. Either put some color on it or just go ahead and die now, I don't think that too unreasonable a request.

I never heard George Adams go under, ever. In the case of Ford, and to a lesser extent Bartz, I'd put the onus of being "overwhelmed" on them, not McCoy. It's never on the leader to play down to their sidemen unless they have a reason. Otherwise, you on the gig, play. But to be fair, I saw Bartz live with McCoy ca. 1983, and he was magnificent. Totally.

So, Harlequin CDs of the early Cubam music recordungs...good transfers, or LCD PD mess? Asking because I found a stash, but deferred due to assuming the latter. But let me know if I was wrong, please.

And Steve Grossman does Sonny Rollins better than Sonny Rollins. -
Yeah, I got that. Damn straight.

I'd go along with less of a tenor-focused sound. The bottom and lower middles had filled up with electric bass, electric guitars, and multiple percussions. But from the middle middles on up, there was still room. Thus the alto, soprano, and flute, instruments that all made memorable contributions by various players.

Personally, I think the Forlenza Venosa Associates Blue Note covers are wonderful. A totally different esthetic than Miles, but they were bright, colorful (with real skin tones sometimes!), just an overall brighter, more "out in the open" look. -
There will be no hurry to get to Vol. 2/ Just look to spent some quality time with Vol 1.

If you wanna go there, Love Call & New York Is Now. Ornette, Dewey, Garrison, and Elvin. Kinda mixed reviews in their time, mostly around Elvin not being insta-bend like Blackwell & Moffett, but that was then, and now is hey - Elvin. And for that matter, ALL of Elvin's records from that time. -

If you're going for that organ groove, John Patton's records from this period are his best, imo. Reuben Wilson and Lonnie Smith also did fine things for the label during this time as well. -
First I've heard about Billy coming from Tyler instead of Houston. Add him to the list! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyler,_Texas#Notable_people

I dunno, I see a future of greater insularity and self-affirming redundancies. Contraction rather than expansion. Not my idea of fun, but otoh, yin and yang, can't have one without the other, so maybe it's that time of life for the world today. OMG, you're right! Geez, how long has it been since he had anything out? Where is he living? Is he ok? It's been a bit of a while, it seems...
