One of them, yeah. Andy Hernandez (aka Coati Mundi). Not August Darnell.

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
JSngry replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion
Bought this at the Dover Quartet concert a few weeks ago (it was the only merchandise on sale, and it being sold was by the composer, not the band). The quartet was premiering a work of his, and I liked it well enough to buy this. I like this better. It's got some frisk up in it. More than a little, actually. -
Not everybody is shaped the same.

100% accurate, and also 100% irrelevant.

Here's one you can give him next time around:

Yeah, well, play it again, only use this version: Deal with that, Poorfessor Wrong.

Putting a face to the name.

All that aside, those were all guys he was in immediate contact with, at that time, probably more than not. I have a hard time believing that he wanted anything other than what he got. Now, if you want to wonder about why he would want that, be my guest. But I can tell you that the one time I saw the Octet live, some of the names had changed, but the ensemble sound had not. David Murray just be David Murray.
-
How does that compare with the Arista/Freedom pressing? Better vinyl? More flavor? Less filling? Certs?
-
The lineup on that record: David Murray – tenor saxophone, bass clarinet Henry Threadgill – alto saxophone, flute, alto flute Olu Dara – trumpet Lawrence "Butch" Morris – cornet George Lewis – trombone Anthony Davis – piano Wilber Morris – bass Steve McCall – drums Unless you have a need/desire (permanent or temporary) to subscribe to "European" notions of "in tune", then fuck that guy and others like him. They have narrow ears for sound. This notion of pitch being exactly defined is a very digital paradigm. Pitch is infinite, the division points are entirely imposed. It's like time in that regard. The ultimate analog. As you suggest, intent is key. If you hear people with well-centered tones, controlled timbres, confident breath support and/of fingers, odds are way batter than just even that they know what they're doing and why they're doing it. Go with that unless and until it runs out (and everything runs out eventually). Now having said that...everybody can and does play out of tune sometimes. It's a fact of life. But these guys are consistent within themselves, and that's another way to tell - is it consistent within itself? If it is, I think that if they wanted it to sound otherwise, they'd be more than capable of so doing. I had a disagreement with this one guyy a few years ago about Fela's horn section, this guy claimed they were totally unlistenable becuase they were out of tune. yeah, that shit is "out of tune" the was THIS is: Don't listen to people who can only hear differences as being only/either good or bad.

It also hits the spot both before and during a long, hectic day at work! Or at any point of ANY day!!!!

After reading Felser's two hits, I've identified what I could more or less immediately recognize, but I like everything on here except #13. Ok, listening to #13 again, I suppose I can like it if and when the time comes when I would really want to. That time is not now, but never say never, right? It just sounds little late in the game, if you know what i mean?
-
#11 sure sounds like Wilbur Ware, but I can't place the recording.

Wrong venue for that game, though.

Just my opinion, but I think the worse thing you can do in the advocacy of a logistical position is to turn from objective to subjective by making it "personal", especially by being , as you say, a dick. Then it's no longer about the position itself, it gets to be about what a dick that guy is, and then boom, flush, back to where we started from, or even further backwards.
-
I'm 100% understanding of the cynicism toward "owner loyalty". But refusing to engage in basic human communication has nothing to do with that. You lost the game, you're not "employed", yeah, we get that. The team has no loyalty towards you, we get that too. But jesus dude, it's the last game of the World Series. You may or may not ever be there again. Just be a human being for a few minutes and talk to people. Or if you don't want to, defer with grace, or some semblance thereof. You're not talking "on behalf of the team", you're talking person to person about a life event. World gone wrong.

Josh Hamilton begins his new Redemption From The Dark Side narrative with a pretty deep descent into said Dark Side: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27968802/ex-ranger-josh-hamilton-faces-felony-charge-injury-child Yeah, fuck this guy. Repetitive Redemption Narratives are for suckers.

The member without whose input I would not be able to become the ruthlessly efficient powerhouse of a CFL bettor that I am today!
