  1. How about some wacky cross-sport proposition bets? Examples: Who will have more: (1) Alex Ovechkin shots on goal in Isles-Caps (-130) or Colts and Bears combined QB sacks (+110)? (2) Total punts in Super Bowl (-110) or assists by Jason Kidd in Hawks-Nets (+110)? (3) Dominic Rhodes combiled rushing and receiving yards (+120) or Ernie Els fourth-round score at Dubai Desert Classic (-140)? This stuff is fascinating...

  5. I just today received e-mail from Concord (guess I got placed on a list as a result of summer blow-out shopping), inviting me to purchase Grammy-nominated CDs on their site. So I assume the online store's back up.

  8. Thanks for the tip. Hadn't seen the NYT article. I think the s**t is about to hit the fan on this issue. Gotta believe the problem's widespread.

  13. Recently filled in a couple of gaps in the collection through eBay. This just arrived:
  14. Serena quote from latest Sports Illustrated: "I'm definitely in better shape than I get credit for. [it's] just because I have large bosoms and a big ass... I was just in the locker room staring at my body, and I'm like, 'Am I really not fit? Or is it just because I have all these extra assets that I look not fit?' I think if I were not to eat for two years, I still wouldn't be a size two. We're living in the Mary-Kate Olsen world. I'm just not built that way. I'm bootylicious, and that's how it's always going to be."
  15. Now I'm gunning for the first woman coach in the NFL! or at least bring back Sam Rutigliano. SD might be willing to let Marty go back...
  16. I'd characterize the Rotel sound as "bright". I like it in some system configurations, and dislike it in others. In general, I prefer "warm" to "bright" setups, but don't claim it's anything more than personal taste. However, I'm currently listening to a system with an old Rotel RA-971 IA, and enjoy it.

  18. 14:16 here, respectable but not outstanding...I accidentally reset the poll before checking my answers, so can't spill any beans.

  21. Dallas to interview Mike Singletary: ESPN (orig AP) Certainly a more interesting candidate than Norv Turner, who'd be a lame choice IMO. But I won't even try to predict Jones's decision.

  23. No, sorry, by bogus I meant classless, bush, horses**t, etc. behavior. No doubt that it happened, no intent to question anyone's account...
  24. Interesting. The only thing I noticed, immediately post-game, was BB's encounter with Dungy on the field, which appeared gracious and cordial. The press conference footage I saw later, while far from exemplary, didn't seem too far out of line (mostly following NY sports, I'm used to HCs having adversarial relationships with the media). Didn't notice the Manning snub, which sounds bogus. I ignored the whole Mangini thing, because the NY tabloid media had inflated the affair to absurd proportions over the course of the season.
  25. All things considered, that's not a bad price. Damn, that's a great-looking set. Price seems favorable to me. And a 600-page book! I've heard some Kagel discs (on Montaigne) by the Schoenberg ensemble. Noticing the Claude Vivier disc on the MDT page, I'm going to have to research this further. US buyers can only hope it'll show up at Berkshire Record Outlet some day...
