I think some items they already had last year, Grossman and Mehta/Lovens for example, I am pretty sure I saw in their rest bins last summer... but I might mix something up thank you for the hints! would have overlooked Lloyd otherwise!

Since yesterday 2001 has updated the homepage and (essentially besides a (larger) bunch of Telarc Stuff, Oscar Peterson ... McCoy Tyner, whatever) they have the Hatology Releases I have listed below... any thoughts what I have to get if i want to spend, say, 24,95 Euros and each costs 4,99? At the moment I am thinking about the Ortegas, Ellery Eskelin, one Koglmann and... but there are enough names that don't tell me anything such as Guillermo Gregorio or Lauren Newton and people about which I hardly know anything such as Jörgensmann... haven't had a good idea since June and no results at all since November, whenever i look at the stuff I lose interest/concentration after less than 10 minutes which is simply not a good basis for anything ... my boss hasn't said anything yet which I really appreciate but i suppose it's just a matter of time... usually April and May are my best months but we are not yet there and i start to get nervous (and who knows whether this April will be as good as those of 2005 and 2006...)

All I get is a 'Not Found' answer that's sad, it was a fine homepage... maybe I saved his recollections of Zoot (on another computer so i can't check right now) if anyone is interested i can try to find it!

Happy Birthday! Start a great new year!

maybe this is a good place to remark that the fine (written) Buddy Collette Autobiography which Isoardi put together is available at a severely reduced price, eg from amazon...

+ he has already recorded with Baron on that Don Joseph LP + the first pre-Masada recordings on Zorn's Filmworks III are dedicated to Fruscella / Triglia (who Zorn acknowledges as one of the major influences on his piano playing )+ Jaques Coursil (and many others) got their chances on Tzadik still from what you wrote elsewhere about Triglia it sounds unlikely that he would participate... (to name just one reason against it) [i suppose he knows / you tell him from time to time that he still has fans all over the world ]
-
one record i have long been dreaming of is some Masada plus Bill Triglia (Dave Douglas, John Zorn, Bill Triglia, Greg Cohen, Joey Baron) Tony Fruscella / Open Door tribute record...

IIRC in Leroi Jones Black Music it says that Wayne and others from his school band took the mouthpieces from their saxophones to use them as brass instruments on some tunes... good luck!

we're so used to buying reissues

would never buy anything other than HP (and at least overhere there are cheap and recommendable cartridges on the market by now, ) laser printers are said to be a bit problematic to have in the room for health reasons (infromed myself a little before deciding not to get one... research is still in te beginning however), so I (only I) would only get one if I had something like a "printing room" where it doesn't bother me all the time but wouldn't want one in my office or some other room where i spent a lot of time

the only one i have is chuck wayne's string fever and it is definitely recommended! nice little big band and a bunch of alternate takes on the Sundazed reissue, Joseph gets a number of solos... alternate take :

maybe a good moment to bring up this thread again and ask: does the recent fresh sound CD contain both of his ABC albums? is it highly recommended?
-
these forums have other limitations, indeed

this seems to be my post forever try searching on google and behind what you are searching for type site:organissimo.org like search for "ecm reissues" site:organissimo.org on google it's not perfect, many hits are from some lofi version of the board (which however has the same posts in it ) and more recent things are mostly overlooked but it's something

i think some of the stuff i ordered from dvdlegacy via amazon came from auckland, too - maybe the ordinary transatlantic route? or maybe dvdlegacy and caiman are the same newzealandian (? ) firm... not that I'd care either
-
Bill Triglia has his own thread at http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=17203 (partly due to my own posting in wrong threads ) there is als some info in the Tony Fruscella thread http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=1867 (Triglia is also on most of Fruscella's great recordings) as you can see in these threads, Allen Lowe knows him and sometimes shares great storie...

maybe the right moment to remark that "Bismark" seems about as uncommon to me as "Bix"... "Bismarck", the historical figures second name, i would call already uncommon, even if 120 years ago a bunch of people decided to call their children that way, it has not aged very well... and "Bismark"... Jutta on the other hand is rather common

Clarinet Players or anyone else who may know....
Niko replied to Jazzin'D92's topic in Miscellaneous Music
what i mostly played in auditions is Lajos Dudas "Recital" I don't know whether this is available in the US, the publisher is Dohr www.dohr.de i think it is a nice alternative to the technically much harder "standard" solo pieces such as Stravinsky 3 pieces for clarinet solo or Sutermeister Cappriccio (which are of course highly recommended i don't know how good you play, but i think it takes a lot of time til you can play these with confidence in an audition unless you are quite advanced) the Dudas has a wide range of tempos and high and deep notes in it so you can show something. besides it takes about 7 minutes, but you can meaningfully leave out the fourth (and last) movement (5 minutes) or play only the third (3 minutes)... which makes it adaptable to different audition formats. it has a nice flow to it and might still appeal to people who are a somewhat (not too much) afraid of things avantgarde... it reminds many listeners of jazz but i don't really know why (not too surprising given the composer though) hope this helps a little! -
amazing, those prices for "Sealed IMPORT!!"s
-
I would like to do that, but I bought so many last year during the Zweitausendeins sales .... at least some obscures from the wish list were among them, but most were not, but at 2 or 3 € a piece one would have a hard time to resist. Same here... I still miss most of, say Teddy Edward's, Curtis Fuller's, Benny Golson's, Johnny Griffin's discs... and these lesser known names (as opposed to Duke, Basie, Peterson, Miles, Trane, Bill Evans, Monk) seem to be neglected so far in the new releases distributed by Universal same here, the list actually got even longer, it feels, 200 CDs more or less don't really make a difference Yusef Lateef, Howard McGhee, Steve Lacy, just to write what comes to mind first...

Yes, I've seen Walkin' (or 'Gravy') attributed to both. Seems Carpenter's theft of Mundy's compositions isn't limited to 'Walkin''. This is from James Gavin's biography of Chet Baker, Deep In a Dream: In the manner of the quickie bop-record dates of the fifties, when albums were done in a day with hardly any rehearsal. Baker and his group showed up at each session and basically winged it. Jimmy Mundy sat in the control room, anonymously churning out songs for which Carpenter took credit. "He was writing the next tune while we were recording the tune before," said [Kirk] Lightsey. Carpenter had brought along a bundle of Tadd Dameron's music, plus a few Sonny Stitt pieces on which he claimed coauthorship. Seems like Carpenter ripped off everyone who came in contact with him. cool, thank you! always thought, maybe the deal with Dameron was that he brought Baker in contact with Carpenter and in return got his music recorded under his own name... (and it seems that Carpenter was more cautious than in his earlier days as he let (iirc) one tune appear as written by Mundy and had singer Gladys Bruce or Stitt appear as the second author on "his" compositions so that no one could claim that Carpenter as a non-musician was unable to compose these tunes...)
-
who actually wrote "Walkin" That was Gene Ammons. at aaj iirc they have a thread where it says that you are not supposed to discuss this question there anymore (Jimmy Mundy wrote Walkin) still wondering who wrote all those Carpenter/Bruce compositions on the Chet Baker / George Coleman / Richard Carpenter sessions...
