  1. Thank you, DukeCity, for your reply. I'll write down the name of the book.
  2. Greetings from Amsterdam. Very relaxing jazz. Note that people that clicked on one tune clicked them all.
  3. "BTW, what's the evidence for a Brubeck-Miles friendship at or before the time of the Birth of the Cool band?" Perhaps someone could ask Mr. Brubeck. I'm sorry I brought it up. I don't think there is a link between the two groups of recording...or much of one. Is there a scholarly study of west coast jazz? A good book?
  4. Kate Smith "Lady Sings the Scales" Kenny G "Plays F"
  5. oh oh, I've been busted :-) Thanks for your comments!
  6. Miles was friends with Dave Brubeck. Brubeck's octet recorded about 1946-1949 It preceded the New Yorkers.
  7. Hello DIS, See your PM. Our homepage and demo http://www.HollywoodSaxophoneProject.nl or to the direct English link http://www.xs4all.nl/~smaarten/english.html Just after the demo we upgraded the soprano & bari to Selmer MK6 Should help a lot :-)
  8. This was released on Crown Records (88 cents for a 12 inch LP) in the early 1960s. I enjoyed those Crown records VERY much.
  9. Kate Smith Ella...somebody There have been really good women in jazz but they don't usually get famous. The sith' is better in classical music.
  10. The horn you have now should be good for a few years. The Selmer M6 just does not wear out. Every repairman sees them all the time and knows how to fix them. What pads, etc. Their resale value is very high. Take your time and wait for a good deal on a GOOD used M6. For now, you might want to try lots of mouthpieces. As you get more experience and stronger your needs may change. Try used ones. They are cheaper.
  11. Thank you for the comments and the link, Chas. Am DLing one of the music files now. Will see/hear how it goes :-) ...it goes well. After download I just change the filename and importantly, the extention from cmp to mp3
  12. I hope the album is a great success. Goodby Micheal...
  13. "and where did you hear this tirade by hubbard" I got a cassette of it in the 1980s. also the B Rich
  14. Thanks Parkertown, I feel better.
  15. Once again my astute comments are wasted on you people.
  16. I listened to the Trane stuff. Yet, this particular period of Trane, where he began to flirt with the demands of pop music, didn't satisfy me quite as much as "Ascension" which I listen to on a daily basis. It's unfortunate that he succumbed to pressure to mimic the evolving "smooth jazz" and "safe sax" scene. I sort of wish he had had the courage to take it "out" and really stretch out beyond the boundaries of pop culture. Other than that, of course, I enjoyed it. It just lacked a little in the edginess and exploratory freedom I had hoped for. Concerning the other links, I put in my order for the Twelve Tone Hits right away!
  17. There are a few more here in Holland. I'm not going to the trouble of listing them. I leave that to someone else.

    James Brown dies

Have you heard Soul on Top? JB definitely had a lot of love for jazz & jazz singers. Discussion here. No. I'll try to remember this info though. Thank you.

    James Brown dies

In the early 1970s I saw JB on the Merv Griffin Show. Guess they were talking about jazz singers because all at once JB gets up and sings "Day By Day" with the band. At that moment he was a VERY good relaxed jazz singer. As good as I've ever heard the song. I wonder if anyone here also caught that show? Add Mohammad Ali to the unneeded (and bad taste) list.
  20. Wee Hank, I tries to read the article, but the more I read the more confused I got :-)
  21. In 1966 I was playing with Johnny Baker (piano) at the Jukebox on Height Street (San Francisco). Ornette came in and sat at a table. Jonny actually got down on his hands and knees and begged Ornette to play. Ornette got embarassed or angry and left. He did not have a horn with him. He did have a tall lady. They were both dressed all in white.
  22. Thanks Steve for saving me some typing :-) I have all four records (from E-Bay) + my old copy of Jazz in Hollywood. I transfered them to CD. Did a lot of manual pop removal over 4 days. I also made very clean parts and scores using Finale. We have been practicing this material for over a year and a half and are still interested in doing it better. Most of the charts are by Lennie. It is somewhat unique material.
  23. I have a band that plays their music. Is this a group that anyone here has enjoyed? Anyone ever meet or have known these guys? Any stories (besides the one Google finds) or pictures?
