    Barry Harris

Have the records he made with Sonny Stitt in the 70s been mentioned?
  2. Please don't put Frank Rosolino in the same category. If you do you don't know what you are talking about.

    Bud Shank R.I.P.

He's one of the few jazz heavies I've talked to. Very friendly guy. He did not think much of the surf records. Seemed a little embarrassed about their success. He had 5 balanced action Selmer altos and did not know which was best - kind of picked them randomly, as I understood :-) Played a soft setup. Bud Shank has left the herd but not the heard.
  4. Make that 31. I know who Stockhausen was. I give him a 3. He's hard to dance to.
  5. Yes, with full screen option, right side links, ability to DL the videos. Plus all the always astute You-Tube lurkers comments!
  6. Two of my favorite people. Thanks for posting the link. Here are the real links.
  7. Jackie's pitch was better when he was young. Ears are sensitive devices. Something may have gone wrong. Myself, I could never play in tune on marijuana. Every note sounded right :-)
  8. Ronny Scott's 1974 Impressions 6:50 minutes mono with trio
  9. Anyone know/remember who used to play B3 at the Haight-Levels in San Francisco in 1966? BTW, I was very lucky to be there when Roland Kirk sat at the organ and played a solo blues for about 15 minutes! It was very good. He sometimes played very full chords and changed the stops. Lots of different sounds.
  10. Nice someone remembers Milt Buckner. Eddy Louis (organ) is the spelling. Always enjoyed the Getz album, Dynasty.
  11. Less ornate, not fussy. And the ultimate white blues song goes to... Henry Mancini for "Baby Elephant Walk".
  12. If hiss is the only problem it might be easy to fix. Is it very much the same over the whole session? Is there a "silent" section where only the hiss is present? If so, there is real hope. Even I could fix it.
  13. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090213/ap_en_...o_home_mangione Publicist: 2 Mangione musicians die in plane crash 1 hr 34 mins ago NEW YORK – Two members of jazz musician Chuck Mangione's band were among those killed on the plane that crashed into a Buffalo, New York, house, a publicist said Friday. Publicist Sanford Brokaw identified the band members as Gerry Niewood, 64, of Rochester, N.Y., and Coleman Mellett of Maryland. Niewood played saxophone and flute and Mellett was a guitarist. In a statement Mangione said: "I'm in shock over the horrible, heartbreaking tragedy of the crash of Flight 3407, which took the lives of my dear friends and band members. I am grieving and praying with their families and friends." Mangione and his band were scheduled to perform Friday with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at Kleinhans Music Hall. The concert has been postponed.
  14. Whenever I've had a give a singer a birthday present I'd select one of her CDs. I don't choose to listen to singers but I like her.

  18. "Here's the Ted Blume interview" Cool, thank you. Again I removed lots of horrible noises and did just a little noise reduction. Re-sampled and converted to mp3@196 with a hi-end of 13500hz. More than enough for this file. Rapidshare.com download with no hassle. 14.7MB http://rapidshare.com/files/186257994/John...ne_15__1958.zip
  19. Edited the Dutch out and did EQ to remove low frequency noise and bring up the highs on parts 1 and 2. Rapidshare free upload. No hassle, no wait. 10MB http://rapidshare.com/files/185129238/John...ws_with_MdR.zip
