  1. They're probably just recorded from the old LPs. Haven't heard this Definitive set since I'd rather buy the real thing if it's available.
  2. Has Verve ever bothered to release those sessions on CD? All I've found is one of those pirated CDs on Definitive records (with probably questionable sound). 3. Hi there, I'm looking for someone willing to part with their Bud Shank Mosaic set (the "big" one, not the Select with Bob Cooper). I can offer my Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Mosaic and a little extra in return (the Shank was five discs, the B/A just four) or just pay for the whole thing if the price is right (via PayPal or - in Europe - bank transfer). Please contact me via PM or at progsnob (at) gmail (dot) com
  4. The Kenny Cox Connoisseur is awesome!
  5. I haven't heard Camp Meeting yet (I will!), but thanks for recommending that live album download. Good stuff! I hadn't heard anything past Hornsby's "The Range" albums before, this is quite interesting.
  6. Thanks! I should've figured that one out myself, heheh.
  7. I know this post is over four years old, I just find it a funny coincidence that back in the days (about two years ago I think) those McCoy Milestone albums were one of the reasons for me to give the eMusic trial offer (got 100 free mp3s!) a chance. Between those free 100 songs and the 90 I got for my first month once I signed up for real (which happened on the same day!), I got all those albums and a lot more, too! Haven't regretted the decision ever since, actually my Save For Later list is constantly pushing the 100 albums limit - is there some way around that?
  8. I just ordered this a few days ago, it'll be my first Jazz Crusaders album. Can't wait to hear it.
  9. That's some really nice... music!
  10. Yeah, I noticed that stuff while completing my Scott LaFaro collection a few years ago. I really hope that they'll release those sessions officially eventually.
  11. Excellent. Thank you!
  12. Browsing through Bud Shank's Pacific Jazz albums I noticed that while there were three volumes of Brazilliance on LP, only two were released on CD. Is that a real omission or were those extra tracks added to the first two volumes on CD?
  13. Thanks! Anyone got a source for such Spanish discs?
  14. I've been thinking about getting into Stan Getz's bossa nova recordings. Verve has released this tempting box set called The Girl from Ipanema: The Bossa Nova Years. Is the box set worth getting or should I just grab the individual disc reissues? I'm particularly interested in the annotation as I doubt sound quality will be an issue here. I know that two albums are included only partially, but I think I might end up paying less for the box plus these two as single CDs than for all the individual albums together anyway.
  15. I should be getting the Jack Montrose album soon! His other one on RCA (Blues & Vanilla) was reissued by Fresh Sound Records only so far, right?
  16. I was just going to grab Heavy Love but unfortunately one of the tracks is "unavailable at the moment" (which means there was some noise in the mp3 and it'll probably stay gone for ages). Can someone hook these guys up with a flawless mp3 so I can grab it?
  17. Just added tons of non-jazz stuff, lowered some prices and added/removed the odd jazz album.
  18. I guess now's as good a time as ever to revive this thread... Has anyone heard anything about those mystery tracks, particularly A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square? It would be great to see this album reissued in expanded form (I've been holding off on buying it just because I don't want to end up with an incomplete release soon).
  19. Thanks for the recommendation, I had forgotten about that one and found a new copy for a ridiculously low price right after I read this thread. More recommendations from me, maybe from not quite as late into the 60s but still great: Booker Ervin - The Freedom Book, The Space Book, The Trance, Setting the Pace (with Dexter Gordon) Everything in the Grachan Moncur Mosaic Select And obviously most of those Andrew Hill Blue Note sessions.
  20. As above: www.jazzdisco.org
  21. I think they are, at least that's what I read earlier today. These are the two I meant: Gene Ammons Septet Bill Massey (tp) Matthew Gee (tb) Gene Ammons (ts) Sonny Stitt (bars) Charlie Bateman (p) Gene Wright (b) Wesley Landers (d) Chicago, IL, August, 1950 U7266 Can Anyone Explain? Chess 1433, LP 1442; Cadet LP 783, 2CA 60038 Gene Ammons Quartet Gene Ammons (ts) Junior Mance (p) Gene Wright (b) Teddy Stewart (d) Chicago, IL, May 3, 1951 U7339 It's You Or No One Chess LP 1442; Cadet LP 783, 2CA 60038
  22. Thanks, Chuck! Just checked and that Classics CD contains two other tunes that were left off the Chess compilation disc "Young Jug" as well. Since I don't have that one yet, I might just go for this Classics release.

    Just found another one:
  24. Great choice, I love those two albums! Which reminds me - I got Heath's Landmark albums not too long ago, I should really listen to those now...
  25. I just got the Stitt's Bits box and have been trying to complete the sessions that are included only partially (because Sonny Stitt only played on a few of the tunes). www.jazzdisco.org gives this session data: Gene Ammons - Sonny Stitt Quartet Gene Ammons (ts -1,3) Sonny Stitt (ts -2,4/6) Duke Jordan (p) Gene Wright (b) Wes Landers (d) NYC, June 28, 1950 1. 89 I Wanna Be Loved Prestige 717, PRLP 107, PR 7823, P 24058 2. 90A Count Every Star Prestige 718, PRLP 107, PRLP 7133, PR 7585, PRCD 24115-2 3. 91 I Can't Give You Anything But Love Prestige 731, 845, PRLP 112, PR 7823, P 24058 4. 92A Nice Work If You Can Get It Prestige 718, PRLP 126, PRLP 7133, PR 7585, P 24044, PRCD 24115-2 5. 93A There'll Never Be Another You Prestige PRLP 126, PRLP 7133, PR 7585, PRCD 24115-2 6. 94A Blazin' Prestige PRLP 126, PRLP 7133, PR 7585, P 24044, PRCD 24115-2 Tracks 2, 4, 5 and 6 are part of the Stitt's Bits box. Track 3 is part of the CD The Gene Ammons Story: The 78 Era. But where can I find track 1?
