Speaking of Verve reissues, I saw that Stanley Clarke's Children of Forever will be reissued as part of the Originals series on October 9. I've been looking for that one for quite some time! I imagine there are more titles coming around that time, but haven't found a list of them yet.

Heh... While I like Keepnews' work, Gitler's liner notes make me want to break things. The funny thing is that while he might have been short on time back when he wrote some of the original notes, the new ones that come with the Prestige RVGs are usually just as pointless. Ain't nobody like Ira...

I haven't bought any yet (got all the old editions or box sets so far), but I really like his liner notes most of the time. So what if he's congratulating himself for producing some of those sessions or giving some of those artists exposure - he's damn right to do so. Especially seeing how he pushed guys like Monk or McCoy into unusual environments (often with very interesting results) that would probably not have happened with other record labels. I'm glad to see that the McCoy Tyner album will finally be released, I think it's the last of his Milestone albums that hasn't been on CD yet. I hope Sonny Rollins - Reel Life will be next!

Whoa, how could I have missed this until now? Konitz, Marsh, Evans, Garrison and Motian - what a band! Good thing there was an excellent used copy on ebay.de, grabbed it right away!
-
Back to the On The Corner set - I think the price is a joke seeing how little of the material is really "new". I already own most of the set in the form of the individual reissue CDs. It's a shame because I really like this Miles era, but these discs would be worth $80 at best. Certainly not close to $130.

Stan T: blues for del: the last 7 or so tracks of cd

I've never heard (or even seen) it. Is it really that bad? -
Got it today! Just listening to it. Beautiful stuff! Night of the Mark VII will be next.

All this Clifford Jordan talk made me order Glass Bead Games (the both-LPs-on-one-CD edition).
-
Thanks. It seems One For Amos is on the CD editions of both albums.
-
I like Clifford Jordan a lot. My collection lacks many of his solo albums though, so I have a question: Is Highest Mountain on Muse (NOT the one Steeplechase!) the same recording as Night of the Mark VII?

Aside from the Hubbard albums he's on quite a number of mid-to-late 60s Blue Note sessions: Bobby Hutcherson - Components Duke Pearson - The Right Touch Duke Pearson - Wahoo! Grant Green - Solid Hank Mobley - A Slice of the Top Hank Mobley - Third Season Horace Silver - The Jody Grind Larry Young - Of Love and Peace Sam Rivers - Extensions & Dimensions Wayne Shorter - The All Seeing Eye Wayne Shorter - Schizophrenia Wayne Shorter - The Soothsayer

These are V.S.O.P. live dates. Five Stars is the one V.S.O.P. Quintet release that I don't have yet. Live in the USA is the same album that's just known as The Quintet, right? The one from July 1977 that has One of a Kind, Third Plane, Jessica etc.

vielen dank! (by last batch of conns you mean most recent bunch, or? we have not yet learned that there won't be another...? Yeah, the one with Kenny Cox, Frank Foster, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine and Andrew Hill. Plattenladen.com has all of them listed for less than 8 Euros (yes, even the Conns) - cool!
-
It seems all of those will be released on September 14th in Germany (along with the last batch of Connoisseurs).

I'm really interested in the Dizzy Reece and Curtis Amy selects (as well as the Blakey single), but I just realized that with Mosaic's international shipping rates it makes no sense at all to order this stuff on its own now. It would cost me $23 in shipping costs whereas the same articles would only cost another $7 or even $5 when added to a $100+ order in the future. Seeing how the August sale would only save me $12 that really doesn't make sense - and I really don't want to spend as much as ~$200 on music right now. There should be an option - I'll pay those Selects now, just add them to my next parcel later! Seriously, maybe I should try suggesting that to them...

You, Sir, deserve to have Tormatos thrown at you!

The first track has an extended introduction on the new remaster CD. Is it any good? I haven't upgraded any of my Yes CDs yet, but this might be a reason for me to do so... By the way: Drama is awesome!
-
Yes, but that's how things work for Amazon marketplace sellers. The order isn't even forwarded to the seller before the buyer's credit card is debited. Obviously this is meant as a means to protect the sellers and offering items that are not really available right away goes against the whole idea. Does tower.com work the same way or do they wait until they ship before billing?

George Coleman is generally one of the most underrated players out there. I love his more recent solo albums, he makes a great team with Harold Mabern!
-
You're right, my mistake. I thought it was one of those early Conns without the typical transparent spine.

Those are nice albums, but... Got the Mosaic Select... Got the Connoisseur Edition... Got the Connoisseur Edition... Got the Japanese edition... (could've been the old Mosaic set just as well) Got the Japanese edition... (could've been the old Mosaic set just as well) Got the Japanese edition... (could've been the Conn just as well)

I have all the others and will be gladly be getting those two (unless I run across an affordable copy of the Thad Jones Mosaic set first). I guess the RVG release of Face to Face makes a future Baby Face Willette Mosaic Select less probable now...

This thread inspired me to download Jammin with Gene, Jammin in Hi Fi with Gene Ammons, Funky and The Happy Blues from eMusic. Thanks! I really like this stuff!

That's a pretty big quintet!
