  1. omg. it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO amazing, aboustely the best live show ive seen him do ever by far. oh my god. first of all it was gary bartz, bill frisell, john pattitucci and herlin riley. they played BLUES ON THE CORNER, omg. mccoy, although he looked older, frailer....when he took the mic to talk, he was way cool, he was hella lively and really funny and super- "on it", it was awesome, very good stage conversing w/ the audience and omg the opened w/ a 15 min. crazy song and then they did blues on the corner and moments notice!!!! SO basically, this show, a few yrs ago and such when i saw mccoy a few times it was like 'coltrane power trio' style this show was more like McCoy Tyner awesome blue note sideman. you know what im talking about. oh and gary bartz was INCREDIBLE.
  2. wait is this the 'nea jazz masters' award? you mean benny golson got it before sonny? or? i dont agree with this. Sonny shouldof got that higher honor, the one Brubeck got, the Kennedy Center Honours, right? yea. thats what sonny was up for. i have one more question: EyeSpeech, you are the craziest organssimo member since the old bnbb- everything you post is freaking me out. yes or no: are you the ghost of charlie parker
  3. i have to say, on lp i never cared for this album much, but on cd, its just like: my god
  4. this live to digital 2 track recording i got today is on "en pointe" compact discs, dist by elektra asylum it appears, dude bud shank and bill perkins are in the orch. horn section, i do not know, or immagine, they are/were going to solo on this. so far it does sound good, like it was really recorded live to digital 2 track like it says it is.... they just did kenny loggins: 'this is it', they rocked it though!
  5. im not the one who said it, but i found it relavent. and just tried to have some fun in a lively post, im not an ecm collector...yet! lolz
  6. no i know that, i have the record right here- but i mean, are they classic west coast jazz guys i dont know about?
  7. i just was wondering if they are west coast jazz people, or what, cause, afterall this is a wcj album, isnt it? dolo coker and laurence marable are also on it, so...?
  8. so this legend of hoagy carmichael lp i just got appears to be the same as the pacific jazz album. the same session. it is on Kimberly, a division of PRI (dave pells?) label. did richard bock really allow this?
  9. i was just buying a west coast jazz lp on KIMBERLY records, a salute to hoagy carmichael- art peppers on it. the dude was all, yeyeayea ever notice theres a lot of obscure wcj labels, and i was all: yeyeyaeya!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he was all :yeaeaea! they called chet baker and were like: u wanna make a quick 500 dollars, and theyd lay a session down and so i know the ted gioia wcj book did not go inbto this connection so i wanted to ask you guys if you think the connection is there, ok...
  10. shes very pretty, shes like a sexy cedar walton. i discovered her the other day actually on -your- blog...
  11. i dont know of any 60s era player who updated his organ setup like groove did, so he had this nova bass unit, is that a seperate keyboard or really is played thru the hammond board, no, really? and he used a wah wah effect on the top keyboard, and leslie simulators being fed into amps, no leslies, that was the eighties. whats up w/ groove and all this. can someone give me a chronology, thx
  12. no way, really/ where you aware ornette was going to open the show before you went. thats pretty awesome show did i say pretty i mean extremely
  13. dude...-screw- *my* thread......that is HARSH!!!! i dont have that hampton hawes album...im looking at it online now and i dont even recknoize the cover, is this one hard to find? denny diaz on guitar, really, thats interesting....
  14. oh god, youre so right- hes all over aja on piano. earlier SD albums though done have session listings for each song, just the whole album. the album that was pissing me off was Cant buy a thrill. i was listening to KINGS, a song i like very much, and i was just thinking ARGHRGHRGHRGHRGRGH! Victor Feldman....on bongos!!! what a waste of talent! what kind of sick steely dan music-joke is this? thats what i was thinking, i got angry, lol
  15. well...what was the story?
  16. i dont understand how steely dan could do it, here you have the great victor feldman, and hes playing congas and/or shaking a tambourine? what kind of sick musical joke is this? my question is, after all these years, how, could steely dan possible relegate the great VC to role as percussionist? i mean yea yea i know his world pacifc album where he plays all the percussion stuff. but come on, jesus. this of how great it would be if he did pianos, keyboards et al. did fagen really need to hog it?
  17. i dont have the original milt raskin issue but i think the lp on kimberly i have is the same album + extra overdubbed percussion. i dont remember if i have bongo madness, but i got les baxter's bongo album on capitol last night. and yes of course i have jazz heat bongo beat, although i think i might have a canadian pressing......
  18. 1st up is vol 5. in a series of CROWN BOX SETS. all come on nice red vinyl. there all musicals. vol 5 is 'around the world in 80 days' for lp 1, lp 2= gigi, lp 3= south pacific. other volumes mix it up slightly but musicals still are paramount. one interesting looking one is vol 3, 'symphony in stereo'- which incl. symphony of the golden west (buddy bregman presents), symphony of the sea & symphony of the blues. pic next up, is this. the split second i picked this record up. i immidiatly thought "SOMETHINGS NOT RIGHT WITH THIS................" it was 1) the fonts, and 2) the fact i had never heard of the record label. the combination of the front type plus the fact the label was a complete mystery, prompted me to pull the record out....again, the font was familar but no mentio of origin on the label............but then on the lower inner part of the foldout.........there it was............ CONTESSA RECORDS/ 5810 SO. NORMANDIE AVE., LOS ANGELES, CALIF. 90044! I HAD A FEELING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this crown subsidary seems to focus on real awesome nice gatefold jackets! also the vinyl looks much better than usual crown, id have to say. lets take a look at some pics: inner gatefold! u can also see in this pic another lp i got last night! can anyone determine which pressing it is?
  19. was it ever determined who the correct sax player is?
