  1. Blame Honky...for not respecting Hank Mobley more
  2. never heard of this, is it an old, hard to find book or a newer, easy to find book. i had no idea he was using. is that why we dont have as many lps w/ him in those early years, cause he never seemed to have a huge recorded presense then
  3. it was like a: make your name into an anagram website........
  4. I DONT BELIEVE IT THERE MAKIN A JOE ALBANY MOVIE? DUDE BROWNIE ME N U WILL BE THE ONLY GUYS IN THE MOVIE THEATRE WHO HAVE ANY JOE ALBANY RECORDS, LOLZ

  7. you mean there really a different/better mastering than the mosaic set. god i need originals for these....
  8. yes. also 'this is it' is on this, co-written w/ Michael McDonald. yes, Michael McDonald is sorely missed, his unique brand soulful vocals are welcome anytime
  9. what did u score some 1st pressings?
  10. haha well it just the show where they really use the "dave grusinesque" keyboards!
  11. well look, try::::::: 6-7, 12-13, 17-18--- try that- sry i freaked u out, man- '83, a hell of a year
  12. dude thats a scary picture of jimmy page, wtf
  13. dude i just heard this dude the other day he is practically, maybe not really, but seriously he sounded upon 1st listen to like that he was like the 'white sun ra' or someone- it was insane. i mean, there are barney kessell and shelly manne groovin', and this dude is tearing it up keith emerson """middle of karn evil 9'''''' style, this record is modern organ jazz insanity. i strongly suggest somone blog it and it surfaces so you guys can all hear how crazy it is. makes me sad i gave up that jimmy smith one i had but im sure this one is even more crazy by far. i mean this guy sounds like no organsist i know but maybe sun ra a ----LITTLE-----. i mean this guys a genius i **HAVE** to get all 3 of his Fantasy lps like mucho pronto. why the f did they plug Korla Pandit so much les strand is so much more out of control. hey you guys are jazz collectiors, have you heard these lps, are they out of this world?
  14. ....but its **ALWAYS** appropriate to sidetrack the thread if u have a hank mobley question, or thought- that is always ok!! if yr a fan of contemporary jazz in the early 80s, if you liked the way al jarreau breakin away was produced, and if you liked victor feldman generation bands 1st album, you have to hear this show. its totally the "Dave Grusin Keyboard Show". any self respecting fan of post 1977 jazz will need to hear this at least once, perhaps, many times- http://www.archive.org/details/gd1983-10-31.sbd.clugston.3811.shnf
  15. yea. totally, i had or mabe still have, the lp too. never cared for it. did zero for me, as a freddie hubbard album. then i got the cd. WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!! theres even that special note on the cd thats not on a lot of cds, the : warning, this cd contains a shitload of dynamic range, if you are jammin to it to loud you may cause dammage to your speakers-- note. i only have that note on a -few- cds!
  16. cause on my 1st pressing-stereo edition right now its like the eq shuts off for 10 sec. or something, akin to 2:20-235 on the yes cd Big Generator on the song 'almost like love'
  17. dude who is this guy. i cant find much info on the net about him, some, not much. dude this guy is the white sun ra. im listening to a cover of "yesteday", it has to be the most un-sappiest version of it ever, omg- it has more incommon w/ discipline 27. part of it is this guys playing and part of it is the nature of the yamaha organ- together its a winning combo. any of you have any cd version of this? OH MY GOD THIS IS ONE JAZZ RECORD THAT COULD SOUND SOOOOOOOO GOOD PERHAPS ON CD, omG
  18. ok 1st of all theres not date on this lp, the cover looks soooooooooo 80s but really it -----could-----be from the late 70s...i dont know. i like how barney kessel & shelly manne are not "and friends" of just les but les + the yamaha organ. ok first off all, the 1st song is a up tempo swingin 'i dont know how to love him" (standard?) and ill im telling you is this les strand is going into keith emerson territory on this, some of his sounds hes getting from this are demented....not quite QX1 level of course but u can totally tell some of the same technologial ideas went into it. leonard feather wrote the liners. the cover is les + the organ chilin by a marina. it is a very refressing record, even if youre not rockin the all encompassing hammond, you can still rip it w/ shelly manne + barney kessel cover to put it another way, this record is like, the closest barney kessel ever got to playing in elp.
  19. Claude Bartee (ts) Emmanuel Riggins (org) Grant Green (g) Herbie Lewis (b) Idris Muhammad (d) Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, May 29, 19706478 I Can't Leave Your Love Alone Blue Note unissued 6479 Let Yourself Go - 6480 Love On A Two-Way Street - 6481 Green Acid - 6482 Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head - 6483 Something - 6484 Let It Rain whats been commented on this one again, its no 'trainwreck', right? i mean, what the f? mayeb the tape cannot be located. green acid? LET IT RAIN? omg. when will we hear this!!!!!!!! ------------- re- unrel. cuts on carryin on, you have to admit the those two stick out like a sore thumb and wouldnt of fit on the album, although im glad GG was down w/ glenn campbell. grant really was hip to ALL the scenes, he even covered billy joel's just the way you are, cause he dug that one. also that 2 song reuben wilson session, one cut "hold on im commin" made it to "the lost grooves"....but theres also ma cherrie amour, unreleased. that needs to get out too
  20. obviously, you had the LP, not the CD, correct?
  21. this was grants 1st album for bluenote after a pause of, how many years? 2 or 3? music sure changed in the meantime.....great album, i have the cd, need the lp
  22. i started the same thread a while back, dont recall the responses-- yea i have a white label promo of this and was perplexed to see it was vangelder stapmed
