....thats how much you owe him........ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- would you be so kind to share about 1965, when you recorded THE two greatest jazz lps of all time, Dippin', in June, + Cornbread', in Sept. You never recorded w. Hank b4 Dippin: did Hank personally select you for the recording, or did you gig w. Hank prior? How did Hank hip you to the songs? did he just pass out music, or did you blow the songs in live performance prior, or how was that learning those songs. was hank writing those on the spot? was Hank happy about how his songs sounded while recording, or did Alfred Lion want one thing, and Hank another- regarding Cornbread, you tried recording the album a day prior, but then then the next day you came back and layed it down. what that just a rehersal that was taped, or was the session really aborted, and you tried again- why? is it really true the 2nd day, you come back and nail "Ceora" in one take. on the titletrack Cornbread, the song, were you or Hank or Jackie, or anyone, of particular noticing how you were basically inventing jazz-rock fusion, that day, right there, that moment-- you have to forgive me but we out here on the W. coast dont know a lot about how it went down w. the Mobe and the whole scene- thanks and takecare ========== i hope he responds

rainbow covers, any time, any day, any where. WAIT THIS THREAD BRINGS UP A GOOD POINT, WHY DONT I HAVE THE INFINITY LT-SERIES VINYL YET, OH MY GOD, I DIDNT REALIZE I DONT HAVE THAT, OH GOD -
that brings up a good point, i do not know whats up w/ the B.G productions......so does that encompassing something larger, of that of which Riverside is a part of? Was Bill G. the one w/all the $, and orrin was just in charge of the jazz division? where did all the $ go?

wait so the cover w/ the chick, that isnt the reid miles cover? is it a libertycover? cause if so its a rather good one faithful to R.M., cause i always found it a good cover, definely in the blue note vibe but very colorful like the 60s well i like the cover, but whats the beef w. this album again, the cover wasnt RM, and it was mastered for record AND cd??? from not a tape but an acetate disc? you have to fact-check that article man i dunno about that, acetate? was lush life gonna be issued on 78? wouldnt it be just a regular test pressing disc by that point or whats up w/ the metal parts being used at this time, does that correllate. that is my concern w/ this thread. right now im listening to nothing. if i put on 1 thing, im neglecting 5000000000 things, it is hard to do. does this ever happen to you. deciding between lex. ave horace silver & the jazz messengers + Earl Klugh might seem like an easy decision, but walk a mile in my shoes, and im telling you theres zero speration -
im starting to realize that i dont make enough money to buy all the hank mobley records i want.
-
never heard of that guy. sounds like a boheminan type or phaux-renassiance man....interesting The names are Charli (no e) Persip (with an e) and Tommy Flanagan, and the title of the LP is Gretsch Drum Night at Birdland. dude its 11 in the morning. im suprised i didnt call him Honk Mobley, lololollllllllllllllllllll
-
the new cds sound better? is it a different transfer? how is that even possible. the mastertapes are probably in morris levy's grave. im suprised. how to get the new set anyway? yea the old cds were sketch. wish i still had the booklets/backcovers and stuff for these. never had the lps. yea its hard to find roulette lps cause theyre all misc./ various artists. checkin out the usually no good v/a section at the store the other day though i found a SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET copy of Gretech Drum Night @ Birdland vol2: a roulette date, w/ elvin philly joe, charlie parsip and art blakey leading the crazy group. sonny red, tommy flannagan, ron carter..........

well, he went on a journey through the greatest periods in jazz, but he was one of the best ever who knows if KD even named it that, didnt DJs back in the day just make up names for heads they didnt know what they were?

u know it, jsngry, but i negeleted to mention...i **LOVE** Careless Whipser, incl the sax part-- in fact, i frequently recall, that i think, that i think i can recall, the FIRST time EVER hearing a SAXOPHONE ever, FIRST TIME EVER HEARING A SAXOPHONE, was in 1984, on MTV, the video: Careless Whisper!!!!!!
-
really? they produced the whole steelers wheel album? ? im telling you one of the early solo lps, i just didnt "get". i admit that. in fact i actually never really you gotta believe me, baker street, did nothing for me, the vocal part is ok but the intro, in fact all the saxophone, i dont like that saxophone part, its creepy, i never liked it, when u listen to hank mobley and yusef lateef all day, Baker St. comes at you like a ton of bricks, i dont like it. remids me of the sax part in TURN THE PAGE/BOB SEGER, i am sorry, it does, always thought that. im hip to the Seeg but i still dont dig the sax in that one either, i like r&r saxophone, i have no problem with andy mckay or rob lind- but the single i dig or was it a single, i dont know if it was a single, 'home and dry' on city to city. it kind of has this whole gary wright vibe to it and its deffintely #1 single on that lp, i cant believe baker st was even the single, i recently got a pretty immaculate UA press of it to replace my very good+ copy which i had previous.

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to Dmitry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
