dude i met this dude who was telling me how he is a music historian for unknown jingle/session vocalists in the LA area....there was a group of singers who worked for hire for commericals and jingles and some even got their starts in the big bands. it was very interesting -
the Spanish Castle in "midway" (between seattle/tacoma by the airport area) wasnt a rock club really, but a teen dance hall-- the end of it was when a girl was killed whilst crossing the Highway 99 in front of it

Wait randy wait, before blue note reissues, is it true you were a drummer in the Detroit garage rock music scene of the 1960s. what bands did you most play with. What bands in your mind where the best. Did you know Bob seger or glen frey. did your band/bands ever open for anyone famous. did you make any 45s, lps? etc? WHERE U COGNICENT OF ALL AT WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE PACIFIC NW REGION, EG. TACOMA, WA AND THE FABULOUS WAILIERS AND THE SONICS AND THE GALAXIES. or was your scene completely separate and u just grooved 2 your own groove

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Re-issues
what the hell is up w/ this chick. is it like emmylou harris on blow// to this day i have never heard one bar or joni mitchell's music. ive heard an amy grant cover-version of one of her songs but thats the whole of it. i think she might have a target-cd. ill have to check. wait i may be getting her confused with Ricky Lee Jones. Wait, maybe thats who i wanted to talk about in the 1st place, i dont know anymore. all i have to say, all i have to say, is if she isn't better than Annie Haslam of Renaissance and it doesnt sound like Renaissance, than i dunno aboiut it..... -

r u talking about the afternoon gig or the club gig the night prior in georgetown. the club gig rocked my socks. at the day gig at first i thought there is no way this is gonna sound good cause of the tiny speakers but actually they pulled an ok sound out of what they had to work with- the day gig was nice but the club gig was out of control. pat called out different timings to trey: eg. 7-4-6: they'd hit in unsion- bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam then 1 6 2: bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam then pat is all: whats the area code here: (trey- 206) bam bam [pause for zero] bam bam bam bam bam bam it was prog rock subdivided down to its basic mathematical contents--- but the best part of the evening gig, they finished another one of their jams, and all of a sudden: BAAA BAADA DA BA DAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (21 century schizoid man) and i went WHOHOHOHHHOHOHOOHooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they played it with all these samples, like from movie dialogue--- instead of instrumentally doing the lyrical lines of the song-- it was like 21st centry meets elephant talk then they faded out that song and all of a sudden trey ssegued that into the starless bass riff- at which point i went oh my god! oh my god omg omg omg omg omg omgomgomgomgogmomgogmogmogmogmomgomgomgogmgomwhooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had **NEVER** heard that live before and i was freaking out!

KBCS planning massive jazz programming cuts
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to funkogre's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
1st of all how can they have wanted to cut the bud and don show if the bud and don show hasnt existed for like 5 years- sadly grand master bebop saxophist don lanphere died a number of years back/// frankly i cant believe they had tjhat much jazz on it, at all these days/// the only good area jazz show was my show where all the time was mobley time -
do you think it would be hard to obtain copies of Mobley police records? according to the liner notes to slice of the top, he had 3 convictions...

the VERSATILE eddie harris
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Artists
i have been to daunted to go around collecting all his 70s atlantic outpyt, in fact i didnt even know versatile eddie harris existed....but i have his 1st sesssion reissued on west coast KENT (also have the vee-jay) i have the les mcann stuff, but best is a boxed item, eddie harris live at elario's (san diego, ca) in the set, multiple shows from 1985 and 1987 are represented. its like mar oct 85 and feb, apr, novemeber 1987, like various eddie points throught the eddie-year, dig? on one of them marshall hawkins is totally on bass. -
why i contemplated at the record store for 20 min. over whether or not to get this 3 dollar record is beyond me: im alread on side 2 song 2 and it flows together as an album, much better than i perceived from reading the track song selection/personel/instrumentation, etc.....on lp cover i thought: man this looks like a pretty disjointed throw together.....boy was i wrong. its just a buffet table of funk- its a funk-explosion: then theres this bebop track w/ don ellis on trumpet (i didnt even know he was alive in 1977)-- so this lp is just a mind-bender for me, in more ways than one- i will always love it http://smoothjazz.mallmusic.cl/imagen/album/1359
