btw, enjoying this cd 10x more than his Atlantic stuff, by far -
mine, the cover is blank inside w/ no liner notes....strange...its def. an original/// ok so it mentioned Hadley caliman as being interviewed....now he wasnt actually ON any of the tracks, is he? ive pulled most of the discog. info from the songs on this cd from other places on the net and havent seen his name pop up. ive always been interrested in his early records...what they were, etc....the earliest i know of him on record is i guess stuff from the 60s, so.... anyways for some of you in the know, im interested in what Hadley Calimans contribution to this release was, etc....thx!

no, i do not think that tainting the pool of standards is healthy.

mobleys songs didnt become standards becasue songs after 1950 dont "become" standards. people who try to do this to straight, no chaser or so what, are idiots

this is what you guys watch? no wonder youre all in love with cecil taylor -
i wish it was for a reason as profound and unpredictiable like an unfortunate death....in reality it was prob. BN's music-biz B.S, thats what i have my money on....wasn't BARRY HARRIS wanting to record a trio session for BN, Al Lion refused to give him a contract- there are other examples like this, i just dont remember, but im sure you guys could help fill it in

Blue Note quiz on Facebook
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to bluesForBartok's topic in Artists
ok i wasnt gonna chime in but screw it, that quiz (1st section, 1st 3/4 of quiz till i got mad) had absouetly NTHING to do w/ BN....bud powells left hand etc etc? is that from the liner notes of a Bud BN side, or is the BN connection in that its simply Bud.... ---name the sequential BN sessions during the switcheroever from studio hackensack to studio eng. cliffs- This Blue Note Organ player who once, according to legendeary old school seattle local organist NOT the saxophone player James Moody, said he saw him in **LA** , yes LA....in the 60s and he slammed like 1/2 a whisky bottle and fell flat on his face on the floor: he was Through! a) Jimmy Smith b) BabyFace Willette c) that guy who played with George Braith d) none of the above (the ans. is b) -

BN label variation
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
you have cornbread in MONO? whats it like? do tell! is it very diff. from the stereo mastering? which one do U prefer? -
ok did RVG have his own arrangement w/ them.....so lemme see if i got this straight: RVG still did the recording, but he no longer took care of BN masterings, after the sale to liberty?
-
you see how the song credits arent in parentheesees like on side B (not pictured) but it is just listed below w/ a colon ....":" lee morgan, etc was this common pre-liberty for lps w/ the same song composer for the entire side of the record, or did this take place in the Lion/RVG era too.

rooster ties has a point- growing up i ALWAYS thought infinity blew everything else out of the water: ever for having no hank mobley! -
interesting mr nessa thanks- i thought it was from the get go cause i see cornbread promoted like crazy on liberty jackets, smak dab between a julie london liberty and a bud shank world pacific- you feel me? the sleeve is one of those: blue note: the definitive catelogue sleeves. i hope its at least a 2nd issue- i bought it on ebay to get that original analog cornbread sound......
-
so its the "traditional" blue note labels- both say liberty records of course.... i know this lp was liberty from the get-go... but mine is mastered by "BB" and not RVG.... the jacket with it looks like a 70s bn jacket, however the labels are your trad. bn labels that say a prod of lib records....i was wondering if the orig was mastered by RVG or not in the beggining, or do i have a first stereo issue? ps- also got a white label mono "heart and soul"- teddy edwards----finally get to hear this one!
