Jimmy Rowles played piano, Bud Shank played alto sax, Med Flory and Bill Perkins handled the saxes, Al Porcino, Stu Williamson and Jack Sheldon were on trumpets, Frank Rosolino played trombone, Billy Piyman strummed guitar, Joe Mondragon plucked bass, and Mel Lewis played drums well i do already have the .jpg of the cover, but if i buy the record i think ill also have to get Tina Louise meets Coleman Hawkins............ -

Lee Morgan: THE RAJAH
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Re-issues
u guys are all out of your gourds: the rajah is a standout cause the 1st two tracks are both about 15 min long and feature extended solos from lee and hank. both songs are some of the best they recorded- the 1st being a cal massey tune the 2nd being the awesome title cut by lee-- throw in a duke pearson song and a bossa nova and you have one of the best bn albums ever. -
July 8, 2007 Dear Boots Randolph, I just can't take this anymore...... Signed, Chewy

re/ the fender bass, yes these records are sonically unique in that no other wcj was using an elec. bass, LET ALONE that w/ such clean sound such as that which is found on the p.j. and wpj lps------ they singlehandly altered the sonic fabric that which is wcj without making it swing less, like what happend later on when elec. basses were more freq. used-- it was cool to play more funky, or in weird, swing un-friendly time signatures (don ellis: the 'chick corea' of west coast jazz?)
