  1. quote=Son-of-a-Weizen,May 28 2005, 07:24 PM] Where I'm from, guys who can't drain significant quantities of brewage & properly grill food at the same time are called lightweights! ← Oh yeah?! Says who?
  2. Joe, Ask him what he eats for breakfast.
  3. Somebody seems to have confused Hank Jones with Percy Heath. It's quite unlikely that a Percy Heath interview will happen. So Percy doesn't have to endure that oft-asked question ever again. Hank Jones, on the other hand, has almost certainly *never* been asked that question about Love Song, his only album as a leader, so maybe that will be a nice curve ball. Then again..... Mike ← Thanks Mike. Duh.
  4. I inherited my folks old gas rig about 8 years ago. I have to admit, it's nice to turn a dial and be on your way. One thing gas doesn't do is prevent me from drinking too much and burning the shit out of everything. Whenever I'm visiting the mother-in-law and volunteer to do the grilling, she and my wife quickly answer in unison, "Oh, that's okay. You just watch the game and have another beer." Honey.
  5. Joe, It may be a question too often asked but why, after 50 some years, did he record only one album as a leader? (A Love Song (2003) That seems incredible to me.
  6. Talk about a different perspective. While I don't think Meet the Parents is a particularly great film, what makes the movie work is that people (or at least young people) can really identify with Stiller's character. (I cringed through the whole thing as I imagined myself in Focker's shoes.) Focker's not a loser - he's a regular guy who gets the shaft even though his actions seem to be mostly reasonable responses to the situation he's found himself in. It's a very weird movie because you have Stiller playing a very realistic character (who hasn't wanted to throttle an officious airline official before?) juxtaposed with De Niro's ridiculous caricature of the control-freak dad. ← Wheel, I can dig your take. Like I said, until I saw Al's reaction, I thought I was the only clown on Earth who hated it. It was contrived to the extreme. The script was for adolescents. Respectfully, I disagree. ...there was nothing real about any of the characters. Was there? Oh lordy, here it comes again....
  7. Quincy, Your parents didn't give you a hit of acid before you went in?! Bummer dude!
  8. Geez Ron, I kinda liked DiNiro playing the slightly nuts CIA guy and hooking him up to the lie detector machine and all. Oh well. Yeah, well YOU WOULD!
  9. Thank you Al. All this time I thought I was crazy as a loon. My wife took me to see Meet The Parents a couple of years ago and I came as close to walking out of a movie as I ever have. I was insulted to the core. Stunk to high heaven. My wife thought it was kind of funny and there were some tense moments driving home. It was all I could do to keep from saying it was the worst movie I had ever seen. It well may have been.
  10. All those times I was creeping around and you were wearing night vision goggles? Damn! Busted. Thanks for the work on the site, Jim.
  11. Laundry done, house cleaned, a nice long nap and breakfast in bed with tulips. (winking smiley face)
  12. She looks really young. Maybe that's why he can't lose the grin.
  13. Yeah, the Nugs got spanked but they feel good about splitting those two games. The Spurs had to win. Denver has a very good record at home and honestly, they've become a damned good team. Do I think they can win the series? Yes. Do I think they will? No.
  14. Don't know if anyone noticed the Nuggets knocking off the Spurs tonight. San Antonio was shocked. Many people are picking them to take it all. But if they'd been paying attention they'd know that Denver has been the hottest team in the league for several weeks. Could get intereting in Texas. B-)
  15. Just venting about the Mack Gordon/Harry Warren song, At Last, performed so wonderfully by Etta James, Jimmy Scott and dozens more, now destroyed in a tasteless, dry catfood commercial. Makes my blood boil.
  16. Really? News to me.
  17. You're kidding right? 70 square feet?
  18. Here's to an easy, hassle free move. I've been in the same place for 24 years and I have to say I'm envious. The East coast and all that it has to offer....sounds damn good to me. Keep us posted, dude. Safe travels.
  19. Amazing photo! B-) B-)
  20. Thanks for the summary Jim. Envious! Still wish I could the Gates. That's pretty much what our trips to NYC are all about - jazz, art, food.....and theater......non stop. B-)
  21. For several years, Morley's been insisting he knows something about contemporary art. He doesn't.
  22. You may be thinking of Darbar which is around 55th or 56th and 6th ave - it's pretty good but pricey. By golly I believe that's it. Thanks! Btw, I don't recall it being all that pricey.
  23. maren, I have absolutely no business entering this conversation but about 5 years ago my wife and I ate at a very nice Indian or curry restaurant a block or two from (behind) Carnegie Hall. Are you familiar with that one? Have no idea what the street was. We thought it was great food. Course, we're from Colorady.
  24. My thought exactly!
  25. Deanna Witkowski is a very good piano player. All of her CDs are worth a listen. Piano trio lovers will also like Blackbird, the new CD from The Shelly Berg Trio.
