  1. Very nice Noj. I remember reading where you studied art. It certainly shows!
  2. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
  3. No, and Yes. I think the majority of the posters are civil, however this may not be true with the majority of the posts. When you start seeing things like fat fuck, idiot, etc.etc.etc., it is unfortunate, but often these comments are retracted. (I said often, not always) I just hate to see a development of new rules here, and would rather everyone make an effort to improve civility on their own. I agree with catesta. Some of you guys are sounding like the board is practically dead because of political sparring. That's just not the case. Summer is traditionally a slow time for posting. It is for me anyway. As for the bad thread in question, I haven't even looked at it. Not once. The title told me to stay away. Easy. I'm with everyone else as far as the aljerkson, fat fuck, idiot stuff is concerned. My god, it's so adolescent. But catesta's right, much better for those involved to make the changes on their own. And I, too, believe that it's completely realistic. A thread like this might open some eyes. But please, no new board rules for the sake of a few. It makes no sense.
  4. RT, With all due respect, I think you're forgetting about the majority of posters who see political rhetoric, simply ignore it and move on. Clearly the majority do that. Don't you think? Most people don't get caught up in it. They could give a shit.
  5. My co-workers and I thought Cakewalk! Stumbled reversing Fosters and Bud Light. Duh.
  6. Thanks Jim! We should be so lucky to have someone who gives a damn! You've built a fine site, sir. B)
  7. Is it likely that this will continue to happen? And does it do any good or help anyone to mention it here?
  8. From my recording studio days, Airto's instrument crates had three rather large illustrations stenciled on the sides: an eye, an ear and a toe.

Chuck, Talking to people behind the festival and a limited encounter with Larry, he is most definitely "a nice guy". Uncommonly so. Ron, I need to check out Larry's work with Jim. I wasn't even aware of their collaberations.

In college, we played the grooves off of Herbie Mann's Memphis Underground with Larry Coryell....late 60s. Just caught him in Telluride with a trio...local bassist and at the moment I'm memory lapsing on the drummer (excellent). He played Burton's Good Citizen Swallow from Lofty Fake Anagram ('67) and three or four from his last three releases on HighNote. One beautiful solo Lennon and McCartney piece. If his set wasn't the highlight of the festival, it was damn close. Coryell lives.
  11. Nice to see you in The Land O' Smiles, old buddy! Nothing but smiling faces and happy posts everywhere you go around here. Optimism and good wishes abound.
  12. Still the 31st, about 11:00PM MDT. It took me about 10 minutes to get to "post reply" with several connection failures along the way. All other sites are working fine. Now, if it will just send.
  13. Couldn't get on the 30th or 31st around 4-5 MDT.
  14. No B-3 involved but Bobby's Stand is one cool album! B)
  15. You lucky sob!!! Eat your heart out! You can't make it, Chris?
  16. This was news to me. You learn something everyday. Posted on Tue, Jul. 15, 2003 Inqlings | Joe Pesci (a.k.a. Joe Doggs) faces the music By Michael Klein Inquirer Columnist Jazz fans were wondering: Who's this Joe Doggs singing on the new Falling in Love Again album by organ virtuoso Joey DeFrancesco? The answer came over the weekend when DeFrancesco played Vincent's, in West Chester. Doggs is actor Joe Pesci, in his first recording since 1998's Vincent LaGuardia Gambini Sings Just for You. (Gambini was the name of Pesci's My Cousin Vinny character.) The DeFrancesco CD's liner notes read, "Doggs may not be a familiar, household name, but yet there's something strikingly recognizable about his distinctive voice and uniquely charismatic, swinging delivery." Distinctive, yes. But charismatic? Joe Pesci? Friday's gig was Pesci/Doggs' debut before an audience, and it showed. Amid a half-dozen bodyguards, the wiseguy actor walked in (wearing a pulled-down baseball cap and untucked shirt), glanced nervously at the SRO crowd (including TV's Ahmad Rashad), and beat a retreat to a luxury RV around the corner. DeFrancesco, originally of Folcroft, Delaware County, played his Hammond B-3 with a guitarist, drummer and saxman. The well-dressed crowd included lots of gentlemen in dark suits, dark shirts and dark ties. When the Newark, N.J., native returned, his set included "All of Me," "Dearly Beloved" and "Love for Sale" from the CD. He was much calmer and smoother Saturday night. Pesci, 60, has a musical background. He was a guitarist and lounge singer who recorded an album in the '60s called Little Joe Sure Can Sing under the name Joe Ritchie. It's not clear whether Pesci/Doggs will resurface. DeFrancesco is booked Thursday through Sunday at a club in Oakland, Calif. Vincent's was a logical tryout venue: DeFrancesco's father, Papa John DeFrancesco, is a Saturday-night regular there.
  17. That's reassuring! Thanks again. B)
  18. Thanks for the info Chris. I was hoping you might see this thread and respond. So who appoints the panels that review the nominations? Is that all done within the National Academy for Recording Arts and Sciences? And would there be a seperate panel for blues, folk, jazz, world etc., etc? Seems like there's plenty of room for influence from the very start. Yikes!
  19. After hanging around these boards for a few years, I've come to realize that the "awarding" of the Grammys is often tainted with influence, money and politics but who nominates artists for Grammy awards? Just industry people or do recording artists get to play a role too? How does it work?
  20. Cedar Walton may not be a giant in the eyes of some but he sure is in mine. Going to hear him at the Telluride Jazz Celebration in August, where he's the Guest of Honor. B)
  21. Harold Land died about two years ago.
  22. Nice, clean, tasteful. Good work Jim. B)
  23. Or too much!
  24. Good points Beri. Some sports media are still glorifying Tyson the Rapist. Rooster, I'm not sure where you're going. I know that 20pt Scarlet Red RonF makes me a little jittery. As far as I can tell, we're in agreement. And you're right, semantics can get in the way with this. To say that all men are capable of rape is, I think, a reasonable statement. To say that all men have the potential for rape is perhaps more confusing, although still accurate, in my opinion. Having said that, I am certainly not implying that we're all rapists just waiting to be triggered. Thankfully, most of us have morals and values that prevent that from happening. I'm sure that The Eagle County DA and investigators, counselors from the Rape Crisis Intervention Team and her lawyers have all informed Bryant's accuser of what lies in store for her and how brutal a process this will be. Sometimes you do what you have to do because it's right....regardless.
