  1. I also see there's a grey market collection of the complete Konitz / Mulligan / Baker Haig recordings from 1953, but I know little else about it. https://www.discogs.com/Lee-Konitz-Chet-Baker-Gerry-Mulligan-Complete-1953-The-Haig-Performances/release/10231100
  2. Thanks; I'd forgotten half of it was live. And agree. Some of the best early Konitz out there.
  3. Also, the Lee Konitz / Gerry Mulligan / Chet Baker Pacific Jazz date... maybe I'm just clueless, but I don't see much discussion of this one. A key document, and still very fine listening.
  4. The Ted Brown / Warne Marsh recordings (FREEWHEELIN' etc.). Also, the Art Pepper / Marsh session for Contemporary. You can get a taste via THE WAY IT WAS, but the complete sessions are out there too, though maybe only ever released in Japan [?].
  5. Hearing Herbie's voice is proving to be a very emotional experience for me.
  6. Thanks for confirming. Not that I really doubted it was real... it's just that it's so out of the blue. But what a treasure.
  7. This has been authenticated?
  8. Whoa! Thanks!
  9. Very much enjoyed relistening to this program. Thanks again for helping to document the work Kimbrough and co. did to preserve — heck, enhance — Herbie Nichols' legacy.
  10. Have you seen LAWRENCE OF BELGRAVIA? Keep meaning to check it out. https://thequietus.com/articles/24054-lawrence-felt-denim-go-kart-mozart-interview
  11. Damn it. Far too young.
  12. I heard those passages in a similar way, but my ear landed on Laraaji. But I chalked it up to the filmmakers needing Joe Gardner to go to a place "beyond category" (and somewhat unbeknownst to himself).
  13. Excellent date, with Bailey sounding especially inspired. But a date which also raises a question. The title track is here credited to Bill Barron, but, on Yusef Lateef's THE CENTAUR AND THE PHOENIX, it is credited to Kenny Barron. What's the real story here?
  14. We thought SOUL was lovely. I do understand some of the criticism leveled at it. Lots of nice Easter eggs in it for jazz aficionados, though, as noted. Herbie Hancock and Terri Lynne Carrington, among others, consulted on the film.
  15. More info is now available at the New World Records website. (In their PDF catalog.) Link
  16. Let us now praise Tommy Turrentine and Dave Burns.
  17. A wonderful performance by all involved! Now:
