  1. Damn it. Far too young.
  2. I heard those passages in a similar way, but my ear landed on Laraaji. But I chalked it up to the filmmakers needing Joe Gardner to go to a place "beyond category" (and somewhat unbeknownst to himself).
  3. Excellent date, with Bailey sounding especially inspired. But a date which also raises a question. The title track is here credited to Bill Barron, but, on Yusef Lateef's THE CENTAUR AND THE PHOENIX, it is credited to Kenny Barron. What's the real story here?
  4. We thought SOUL was lovely. I do understand some of the criticism leveled at it. Lots of nice Easter eggs in it for jazz aficionados, though, as noted. Herbie Hancock and Terri Lynne Carrington, among others, consulted on the film.
  5. More info is now available at the New World Records website. (In their PDF catalog.) Link
  6. Let us now praise Tommy Turrentine and Dave Burns.
  7. A wonderful performance by all involved! Now:
  8. Brian Charette. Jeff Mills, even if I am very late to that party. Also, Charles Curtis. https://charlescurtis.bandcamp.com/album/performances-recordings-1998-2018
  9. Not necessarily a favorite, but an at-times interesting detour by a player worthy of wider recognition.
  10. On the same topic, just now learning about this as well: https://downbeat.com/news/detail/new-documentary-chronicles-black-artists-group-of-the-60s
  11. Nice detective work. Thank you!
  12. Yes, agree about Sarah Hennies! Hope that this isn't a tease, or, to use a Sangrey-ism, that it hasn't been PALO ALTO-ed. But Google is giving me nothing.
  13. Supposedly forthcoming from New World Records. But the only info I can find is this screenshot a friend shared with me. Anybody here know anything more about this release? Thanks!!
