  1. I really enjoy pianist/composer Cecilia Coleman. I first heard her on live365.com (radio) which lead me to purchase 2-3 of her CDs on CD Baby and a couple more since. (3 are available in their ongoing $5 sale picks.) Whether in duet, trio or quintet, I like her style. Cecilia Coleman bio link.
  2. Especially in Chinatown, right?
  3. One, two, buckle my shoe. Three, four, shut the door. Five, six, pick up sticks. Seven, eight, lay them straight. Nine, ten, begin again. (?) I'm not sure about that last line. Maybe "Nine, ten, start over again."
  4. I got paid 26 easy dollars for sampling and giving my opinions on breakfast cereal for an hour so I applied it toward the purchase of: Wilbur Harden - The Complete Savoy Sessions Junior Mance - Sweet And Lovely
  5. It would be a much better deal just to quit and rejoin. Then you'd get 11 free CDs for buying one. I'm like Big Al at this point. I don't think I could find 5 that I'd really like to own anymore let alone 11.
  6. When you look at the leader of a group, much more often than not they are probably going to be playing piano, trumpet, tenor sax or alto sax. Who are the top 3 players in each category represented in your collection? (I only counted leadership dates and actual physical discs. Thus if there were 2 albums on 1 CD, I only counted the 1 CD. For box sets, I counted each CD in the set.) Mine are: Piano Bill Evans (25) Count Basie (23) Horace Silver (12) Tenor Sax Dexter Gordon (32) Stan Getz (28) Lester Young (27) *Honorable mention - John Coltrane (26) Alto Sax Art Pepper (42) Jackie McLean (11) Lou Donaldson (8) *Honorable mention - Cannonball Adderley and Paul Desmond (7) Trumpet Louis Armstrong (25) Chet Baker (23) Donald Byrd (17)
  7. Talk to them. I'm simply conveying information. I got that.
  8. I guess Serling's two writing Emmys for the series were a fluke. I feel so stupid! I'm selling off the DVDs of the 4 seasons I used to love ASAP. What was I thinking?!
  9. With the release of some of the other Lighthouse dates and the Festival Album over the last couple of years are we ever going to see that '69 Lighthouse date on CD?
  10. Hmmm...how about a little show called The Twilight Zone?
  11. John - this one is great. I think you will like it ! Hmmmm.....I don't find the sound clips too compelling, are they representative ? Listen to samples of the entire set on the link below. Jazz Crusaders Mosaic
  12. The titles below were only $3.99 ea. so I couldn't resist picking up some Howard McGhee, Lucky Thompson and Kenny Clarke. Overall, a pretty nice haul averaging only $3.83 per disc after shipping.
  13. I went on a bit of a buying spree at Berkshire Records Outlet in anticipation of a CD-buying moratorium. The nine titles below are part of the "Hip Jazz-Bop" series put out by 1201 Music. They put together compilations of American artists in Europe during the '50's and '60's from the vaults of British label, Black Lion. They're populated by a virtual who's who in jazz: Dexter Gordon, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Stitt, Ben Webster, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Kenny Dorham, Zoot Sims, Bob Brookmeyer, Lee Konitz, and Miles Davis among many others. They were only $2.99 a pop so I figured, "Why not?". They'll be nice to throw on when I can't decide on one particular artist to listen to. (Continued on next post.)
  14. Ebay link. Try this link. I purchased a CD from this seller and it was a very positive experience.
  15. No CDs worth buying but I picked up 4 paperbacks for $3.20.
  16. 35% (Yankee). A definitive Yankee. It looks like the Yankees are outnumbered here.
  17. Paul Chambers using a bow.....why?
  18. You were right about paying for the return but an 8-CD set was probably a bit too much not to be returned. I did benefit from that type of situation on an order from Concord. On an 8-disc order they accidently sent me a hybrid SACD of Stan Getz's "Pure Getz" instead of one of my selections. I notified them and they apologized for the error, sent my original request and told me to keep the Getz as an early Christmas present! Cool gift because I was a Getz fan and I didn't happen to have that particular disc.
  19. I contacted Newbury Comics via email and received a reply in less than 5 hours. They quickly allayed my fears with apologies and informed me that they would be sending me a new set along with a return postage label for the set containing the defective disc. Very prompt and excellent customer service! Kudos to Newbury Comics!
  20. It's not on my copy, and I just listened attentively through headphones to the entire track. Contact Newbury Comics about it--they'll send you a whole new box set (and probably won't even make you return the defective box). Also, in my experience, defects like that are often not visible to the naked eye or on the surface of the disk. Thanks for checking on that for me Ron. I hope your optimistic scenario plays out, I'm anticipating the hassle of having to mail the set back and fear that it would have to be at my own expense. It's a drag having to deal with it but that particular disc is hinky and I'm not sure I want to let it go and live with it. The first time I played it it started skipping on the 2nd number. The second time I played it, it was fine with the exception of the very noticable drop-out which played both times. I'll have to contact Newbury and see what happens.
  21. I have all his Prestiges so I'm adding to my Jackie McLean collection by picking up some of his Blue Notes. Plus, these happened to be going for only $6.59 at Tower and four of them would qualify for free shipping. I'm hoping these will cap off my buying spree. Household finances are tightening to the point of having to cut out several luxuries and CD-buying is one of them. Jackie McLean - A Fickle Sonance, Capuchin Swing, New Soil and Bluesnik.
