I try and sell them here first because I can avoid the fees charged for listing and selling them elsewhere.

Cool! Thanks rachel!

Has anyone here seen the new show called "Andy Barker, P.I." starring Andy Richter? The episode I saw had Andy golfing with a morbidly obese character who died during a foot race to the green. What I was wondering is, what is the song that was playing as they repeatedly showed the obese character running in slow motion? It was a heavy-funk number. Sorry, that's all I have. I don't even think I can remember any of the lyric but I really dug the song.

"Farlow Concert Band"? Aren't you confusing two sets, the Farlow and the Mulligan Concert Band? I don't know if this was just on the Universal Mosaics or not but the spine on the box was mis-printed with, "TheComplete Verve Tal Farlow Concert Band Sessions."

I picked these up through CDBaby's $5.00 sale. (They're $5.00 *if* you buy at least 3.) ************************************************************************ Maffy Falay Quintet-This one was a home run for me! Excellent! [tpt/flgl, ts, p, b, d] I don't know whether you consider this a good thing or not, but you could play this among any of your favorite Blue Notes and it would fit right in if not outright pass for a Blue Note as well. Recommended, no reservations. Maurice Brown-This guy is pretty interesting and this is a first rate production. [tpt, ts, p, b, d, perc] He's a very skilled trumpeter and has a repertoire that ranges from straight ahead and melodic to the more out and challenging. After only one listen I like this one and I think it's only going to grow on me more after repeated listens. I'm interested enough to want to check out his future releases. Since he plays in a variety of styles (to his credit in my opinion) it will be interesting to see if he chooses a specific identity or remains loose and versatile. Check him out! East West Quartet-I like this one and would recommend at least checking it out. [tpt/flgl, ts, p, b, d] There are a few clinks w/i some numbers but nothing to get too bummed about. (ex. loud brushes, one electric piano number) You're probably not going to mistake the trumpet player for one of the greats or near-greats. Overall, still pretty nice. Joel Spencer + Mike Koncour-I'm on the fence with this one. [org, ts, ss, d on 6 songs; add g, b on rest] I don't love it but don't hate it. I'm not excited to have it but I'm not disappointed either. It's got a groove/jam feel to it. I'd be pleased to go to a bar and hear these guys. I'm pretty happy with the lot. Two definitely recommended, one recommeded to check out and one OK.

Don't let that Parlan set get away from you, it's excellent! Probably one of my favorites.

I'd second that. I failed to mention that in my initial post.

I was fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the Universal (imported) Mosaic for Tal Farlow when they were making the rounds and selling for around $50.00 new. I hadn't heard of Tal Farlow but I enjoyed the sound samples and thought I'd give him a try figuring that if I didn't like him, I could probably sell the set for as much, if not more, than I paid for it so it was basically a no-lose gamble. As it turns out, I really enjoy the set and would give it an unreserved recommendation for anyone looking for excellent jazz guitar recordings. Skill, sound and execution-wise, the box set is excellent. I was concerned that I might get bored with Farlow quickly as I'm not a huge guitar fan but I didn't find that happening. (Though I'm probably not going to listen to all 7 CDs back-to-back.) There is a nice variety in the mix to keep things interesting. If you're a guitar fan, I don't think you can really go wrong or be disappointed with the Farlow set.

I really don't know her work or anything about her but I saw her on David Letterman last night and enjoyed what she performed there. She seems to have a quality and color of soul to her voice that is beyond her years.

That's the way it struck me too. I was absolutely certain that the record was something Ruffalo's character was playing both to blow off some steam and to express his anger and frustration. I'm reading the book and just got to the part which mentions this incident. The author (Gyllenhall in the movie) is visiting the cop (Ruffalo in the movie) after he is taken off homicide. He finds the cop sitting in his living room looking trancelike and exhausted with dark circles under his eyes when the cop's wife says, "Look Dave, he's brought you some books. Here's one on the Big Bands." I guess he really must have been a jazz fan.

Ooooo...I'd definitely be on board for boxes or selects of Les McCann and Baby Face Willette!!

I was watching some episodes from season 3 on DVD the other day. One of my favorites is "The Library" where Jerry had an overdue book from when he was still back in high school and has to face the wrath of Mr. Bookman, the library cop. What a great character!

http://product.half.ebay.com/Royal-Jam_W0Q...064211QQtgZinfo Give this link a go. This is where and how I got mine. It's also better pricing than the one listed above. -
Do you keep your Mosaics on some kind of elaborate, candle-lit shrine and feel compelled to genuflect each time you walk past them or something? They're just CDs!

Bummer! There were 2 available when I ordered on Tues. 2/27 and I paid immediately. They said they ship within 1-3 days and I was wondering when I'd get a shipping notice when the mailman brought it to my door the following Friday! I got the notice that they'd shipped it about 4-5 days after I received it. Weird. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.

And thus we clearly see the attractiveness of these box sets in spite of your feelings that you don't like the cover and package design thinking that they are ugly. I guess you have to weigh whether those feelings outweigh having and hearing the music. For me, the choice would be pretty simple.

All the ladies are buzzin' over the new cat on the block, Diamondtrim S. Fresh. Right on!

Email sent on the Donaldson.

I agree, he should be out. With a little more experience and training, he might be a pretty decent singer but he seems to lack any passion or zest when performing. Sundance blew again and should probably go. The pretty boy who sang Stevie Wonder does nothing for me and should go. The guy who sang the Rare Earth song should be in peril as well. That bald guy (Phil?) kind of creeps me out. He certainly doesn't have an idol look. Overall, the guys were, and are, unimpressive. I still like Chris Sligh. The women are being short-changed having to keep even numbers between the girls and guys.

The accompaniment was much better than the vocal performance, especially the drummer. Then again, I don't even like this song when Peggy Lee sings it so I carry a negative bias.
