  1. Anyone...? Someone must want to make some more shelf space to make room for those new CDs you want to buy.
  2. The Summer of '55 and Sophisticated Swing: The EmArcy Small Group Sessions-two 2-CD sets of early Cannonball and Nat Adderley. John Lewis Complete Verve Studio Sessions With Lester Young-While I like John Lewis, Prez is the draw for me here. This one fell below my radar. I have about 30 Prez CDs but surprisingly, none of this material so it should be a nice treat.
  3. After several days taking in Sonny Rollins' Complete Prestige Recordings, I'm back to The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings. I knew I would like this set for the great price I got on it at Amazon.UK but this Mosaic is really exceeding my expectations. Great soloists, Basie's wonderful economical playing and a band that will blow your hair back-great stuff!
  4. All the CDs themselves are in like-new condition. Cases/boxes are either like-new or show very minor shelf-wear from normal use and handling. Prices include shipping to the lower 48 states. Paypal only please. Please PM me if you are interested in anything or if you have any questions. Bobo Stenson -(ECM) Reflections [import]. $11.00 Arild Andersen with Vassilis Tsabropoulos and John Marshall-(ECM) The Triangle. $10.00 Red Garland Quintet (with John Coltrane and Donald Byrd)--Soul Junction. $6.00 Dave Brubeck-Time Out [still sealed] $5.00 Sonny Rollins-Tenor Madness $5.00 Sonny Rollins-Saxophone Colossus [20-bit K2] $11.00 Sonny Rollins -Sonny Rollins plus 4 $6.00 Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra-The Song Is You--5 CD box set with 50 page booklet. $37.00 Frank Sinatra-The V-Discs--2 CD set with 50 page booklet. $8.00 Longshot deal of the month. I'd also be willing to work a trade with anyone who'd have a like-new copy of Tomasz Stanko Quartet-Lontano or Enrico Rava-Tati.
  5. I'm about to start watching season 2.0 of Battlestar Galactica courtesy of my local library. I finished watching the first season the week before last courtesy of the same. I was wondering, did the writers get some kind of bonus for each time they use the word "frack"? Every episode I just wait for it until they drop it and I say to myself, "There it is!" or "There it is again!" It could almost be a drinking game like taking a shot every time "Bob" or "Mary" are said in The Bob Newhart Show or The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Anyway, I'm still digging it enough to want to watch the next 10 episodes.
  6. Does anyone out there have a copy of Sonny Rollins' The Freelance Years: The Complete Riverside and Contemporary Recordings that they could sell to a good home? I'm hoping to find someone who would be able to give me a fair price on one. PM me if you have one you'd be willing to sell and maybe we can make a deal.
  7. All three of us wore dresses.
  8. I'm very much enjoying Sonny Rollins' Prestige material.
  9. Shhh! Don't tell anyone about these! Yeah, wasn't this on Conan O'Brien? Maybe you're thinking of Elvis Costello.
  10. The Dizzy Gillespie Mosaic almost for certain some day. When are the bargain Universals going to be selling? The Roy Eldridge Mosaic? I'm curious about that Jackie McLean box set of his early stuff but I'd have to find a pretty nice bargain on it.
  11. Along with the likelihood that they'll make truckloads of money as well.
  12. Discs 2 & 3 today. You're right about the sound, it's wonderful.
  13. These arrived in the mail yesterday!
  14. I just received The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings in the mail today. I never would have picked this up at Mosaic for their delivered price of $146.00 because that price was way too steep for me. To get the same thing at Amazon.UK for just over $61.00 delivered is a bargain I couldn't pass up! I was tempted to get the Ellington Reprise set as well but it looked like it contained a lot of stuff that I would find of dubious enjoyment. I just had a chance to listen to disc 1 of Basie and I'm very impressed so far. Check the encyclopedia under "swing" and you should find pictures of Basie with these bands! I can't wait to dig into the rest of it!!
  15. I was introduced to Tintin while sailing in the Virgin Islands. One of the other students on the trip had 2-3 of his comics and I was hooked. I think the first one I remember was Red Rackham's Treasure. I now own all 7 of the 3-fer volumes. I was intrigued by the DVD versions of the Tintin adventures. Are they worth watching? How do they compare to the books? I hear Steven Spielberg is producing some new animated adventures.
  16. The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings-This just came in the mail today. If this band didn't define swing then I don't know what else possibly could.
  17. Sounds like you may have been trying to get a quick "date".
  18. A $100.00+ buy-in is a bit discouraging. I'm guessing comfort is the biggest factor, then probably adaptability if you want to be able to get bigger faster wheels? Maybe the best approach would be to get the most affordable skates that are comfortable, see if I would use them regularly and want to stick with it and then let experience tell me what I'd want for more/bigger/better skates if anything.
  19. Depends on whether or not you are wearing spandex... Ah, you've discovered my Achilles heel. If I'm not wearing it, I'm thinking about it.
  20. OK guys, suppose I get a pair of rollerblades, play floor hockey and hospitalize several people in the process, impregnate several different women, eat raw meat, burp and fart with careless abandon, shave with a switchblade and terrorize anyone who would dare throw me a disparaging glance....would I be able to buy a serviceable pair of skates for regular use in the $50-$75 range or would I have to spend somewhere north of $100 for some serviceable skates?
  21. That sounds like it could be fun. I bet you can really haul ass around that place. A lot of kids around here wear heelies. The are shoes with skate wheels on the heel. All they have to do is lean back and roll. As soon as they became popular, they were banned at school, grocery store, Lowe's, etc. They look like fun though. Sliding around behind your mom's grocery cart... I guess it's set up so that the serious skaters who really want to cruise are on one level and the beginners and casual skaters are on another level. You mention heelies-maybe I kind of have an understanding of why some here are bothered by rollerbladers. I don't know why, but it bugs me when I see kids rolling around on those. Maybe its because I seem to see them everywhere except in a recreational/fitness setting. It seems they would be more of an anti-workout.
  22. I'm surprised at the negative perceptions here of someone who rollerblades for fun/fitness' sake. Maybe it's different here in Minnesota than in other parts of the country because Rollerblades originated here. I frequent a park with a 2 mile walking/biking path and almost every time I've been there I've seen 1 if not 2 or 3 different people rollerblading on the paths. (Ipods seem to be popular with the skaters as well.) Rollerbladers are even more prevalent if you take in the walking/biking paths around the lakes. It's even popular enough that during the winter months, the Metrodome (present home of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings) has a regular schedule of times that the dome is open to rollerbladers so they can skate through the concourses like a giant roller rink. Perception lies in the eye of the beholder. To those here, I'd probably be the rollerblading dork who happened to love jazz. To the rollerbladers, I'd probably be the jazz loving dork who happened to rollerblade. Still, it would be nice to get some helpful advice. The suggestion about getting wrist/elbow/knee protection is pretty good advice.
  23. I'm thinking of it as a fitness thing-hopping, jumping and hot moves would be the furthest thing from my mind. It would be a great aerobic exercise and a great way to take advantage of the many biking/walking trails in my area. I'm not interested in becoming some post-disco stereotype. I don't know why fitness should be undignified, socially unacceptable or the cause of losing respect for anyone. If that is all it takes, then I think it would be time to re-evaluate my friends and peers.
  24. Yikes!! This looks a bit hard-core for a beginner. (And more than a little distracting. ) One little slip and you'd have some serious road rash!
