  1. How joyful that person's life must be fretting over and micromanaging things so.
  2. I was a customer service representative for a large bank when one night I received a call from M.C. Hammer about his account. The name listed on his account was actually M.C. Hammer and not his birth name so I was referring to him as "Mr. Hammer" throughout the call. I also once assisted American figure skater Jill Trenary as she was checking up on things before leaving for some skating competition in Europe. By association-my wife worked for a company that promoted and sold CDs and DVDs. Celebrities would sometimes come in for meet and greets and my wife would help coordinate them. She dealt with Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benetar, Vince Gill, Johnny Mathis, and even Kenny G! She once very much enjoyed having a lunch sitting next to Rita Moreno. She also got to meet Milli Vanilli.
  3. On my "they'd be nice to have" Mosaic list are the Dizzy Gillespie, the Johnny Hodges and the Gerald Wilson. If anyone would like to give me a nice deal on one......
  4. I really like Bobby Hackett but this tended to lean more toward mood music with a great trumpeter featured which didn't really float my boat. I heard enough of it from another source to decide that I would keep my copy sealed and ended up trading it in for the Farmer/Golson Jazztet set. I love the Jazztet set and in my opinion, I traded up.
  5. Has anyone seen this one yet? I give it two thumbs up-it's an entertaining movie and Anthony Hopkins is wonderful in it. The reason I brought it up is that the Ryan Gosling character is apparently a jazz fan. It has absolutley no bearing on the story but twice I saw pictures of jazz artists hanging in his home. I didn't get a good look at the first one but it was a sax player hanging by his bed. If I had to guess, I think it might have been Charlie Parker. The next one I saw in the background was a picture of Bud Powell. Did anyone else notice?
  6. -Find the image you would like. -right click on the image -select "properties" from the menu selections that pop up by left clicking on it -the URL address should be listed among the properties. -highlight the URL address, right click on it and copy it -go to where you compose your post -click on the icon image of the little tree -when I do it, it tells me that I must enter an URL. A bar appears on the top of my window which says, "This website is using scripted windows to ask you for directions. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows." I click on it and then click on the option which allows me to temporarily allow scripted windows. -click on the small tree icon again and a window pops up which asks you to enter the URL address. -paste the URL address in the window (make sure the "http://" portion of the address isn't repeated) and click on "OK" -the image information should then appear in the post and you can then start writing any comments if you wish. The image should appear when you choose to preview the post.
  7. One I haven't listened to for quite a while-Curtis Amy. Very nice stuff!
  8. Then again, there are many who treat it as a forced savings plan. Extra money in the paycheck has a tendancy to get spent and a lot of people don't have the discipline to save. That tax refund may be the only reason some have money in a savings account or have that money to get a new car or pay for that vacation. When you think about the pitiful amount of interest you'd earn in a savings account to keep funds liquid and accessable hassle-free, you're not really going to be missing out on much.
  9. Between the responses here and the link to another discussion on the topic, we have the whole gamut here from buying the cheapest to pure dedication to a specific brand. I checked on the Taiyo Yudens and it doesn't look like you can buy anything less than 100 anywhere that I've seen. For my needs, even 50 sounds like a lot but not so far out that I have to have less. I basically just want somthing reliable to burn and give to friends/family or make some copies for my car. Reading reviews at Amazon.com isn't exactly black and white. People will praise a certain brand and then the next person will say that they are the worst they ever tried and recommend another brand which others will say are the worst they ever tried. It sounds like people here have had good luck with just about everything. I guess I just need to stick with major brand names that I can find at a price I like. Maybe Maxell, Memorex or Verbatim? They seem easy to obtain where I am.
  10. I'm just getting into burning some CD-Rs and was wondering what brand you would recommend? What brands should I definitely avoid? They'd be used primarily for music.
  11. It's tough to get into this season because ultimately, I don't really care about and can't really get excited about any of them. I think Melinda is hands-down the best pure singer and I think the "judges" are struggling to find fault to temper her looking like a run away winner and that's why I think she was unfairly criticized this week. She had the perfect come-back for Simon's comments though. I like Jordin a lot as well. She sparkles and shines and has a great talent. Lakisha is a good vocal talent but I don't think she has much to contribute to the idol package outside of vocals which can be uneven. I don't think Haley did that badly this week and she got slammed pretty brutally. She is very attractive and what Simon had to say was probably true, but it was pretty harsh. Sanjaya actually wasn't that bad this week. Phil creeps me out and he's consistently uneven. I'm liking Chris "Timberlake" less and less or is it that I'm disliking him more and more. I think it's the latter. Blake is.... well to borrow from Paula's depth and insightfulness, Blake is Blake. My guess at bottom three-Haley, Nos-Phil-atu, and Lakisha. If not Lakisha, then Chris. Sanjaya of course should already be gone but he seems to have good backing and this was probably his best performance so he'll get by another week.
  12. But not nearly as pathetic as was Gwen Stefani.
  13. Disc 11 to help alleviate the tedium on the tail-end of tax preparation.
  14. Benny Golson's New York Scene and The Modern Touch came in last week.
  15. These three arrived today: This one's on its way.
  16. He is risen! He has risen indeed! Easter blessings to all.
  17. I wish I could still take advantage of the Google checkout deal. Before the holidays when they were first launching Google checkout, you could get $10.00 off a $30.00 purchase or $20.00 off a $50.00 purchase. The nice thing about that was you could use it as many times as you wanted-even with the same merchant. I ended up doing a lot of buying for the couple of months that it lasted.
  18. Conan O'Brien mentioned this story on his show tonight. He said that the parents and their first child "Whitesnake" were very disappointed with the decision.
  19. Well, there goes another $32+.
  20. How would the "regular guy" like myself sell things on Ebay then? I don't have a means to accept Visa/Mastercard payments from buyers. edited for typo. You can accept credit card-funded payments with a PayPal premier account, but there are fees associated with doing so. I see eBay sellers complain about the fees all the time (and it's not uncommon to see auction descriptions that state "only PayPal payments funded by bank account will be accepted"), but I believe they're not really out of line with the merchant fees credit card companies charge to process transactions. Caveat: I haven't looked at the PayPal seller fees in a while, as I don't do a lot of selling on eBay. I think the fee is 4.7% + $0.30 or something like that.
  21. I'd have to disagree. I probably buy more than 90% of my CDs between Amazon Marketplace and Half.com and there are frequently good deals if not fair pricing on most of the items I'm looking for. It's when an item is rare or difficult to find that you'll see the outrageous prices. I'd love to pick up a copy of the Jazz Crusaders "Old Socks, New Shoes" but there is no way I'd ever pay the $95.00+ that current Marketplace buyers are selling it for. I once balked at one for $16.00 and never saw it near that price again. I should have taken it when I had the chance.
  22. Believe it or not, his name was actually John Bonser but he had it legally changed to his nick-name "Boof".
  23. Mel Ott Kirby Puckett Jimmy Gobble Trot Nixon Boof Bonser
  24. I'm guessing you're going to get more selling here than you would from any used CD dealer. (Maybe even significantly more.)
