  6. Watched Les Invincibles, a great local tv show which could be called Men behaving badly, the way the series is directed is quite brilliant. One of the characters is known as Rich the Bitch, think that name will remain a long time in our collective psyche.

  8. Never mentionned any females, Eleni Mandell, Neko Case and PJ Harvey would be my current favourite ones. On the french side Camille gets my attention the most, her latest Music Hole han no language since it's more about sound than voice. http://www.camille-music.com/

  10. The African music thread is not the same without you, no offense to those still taking part in it, truly appreciate the way you do business on this board and your open mindness about music in general, hope you win the lottery and get yourself new gear ASAP.

  16. Very sad but not suprising news, Bashung died yesterday from cancer, he was 61, the english news item found on the web don't really do him justice, so, i won't post them. He was the first name that came up to me in the favourite non-jazz singer thread. He was not an easy guy to categorize, a bit chameleon like, he was a pop singer and had a few hits early in his career but he got away from that pretty quickly and turn into 80's new wavish rock, singing even a few songs in German. In the early 90s he made a classical american rock, singing even a few covers with Sonny Landreth shining as a main guitarist. From that point he went into a Leo Ferré kind of mode where he was half singing half recitating songs carried on with voluptuous arrangements. His last album was more of a back to his roots with guitars having a more central role. Definitively a huge loss. You can put him in the pantheon of greats with Ferré, Brel, Gainsbourg ... Here's what i think is his definitive song Here's the main song of the more classical american rock i mentionned.

  20. As pissed off as i was last year gotta say that just in the pre-sale, they seem to have gotten their act together. So far they have announced Rava-Bollani, Shorter quartet, Chucho Valdes, Maria Schneider and Ornette Coleman Of course they are a few pop acts and some repeats but still it is way more motivating to go get tickets this year, let's hope that when the bulk of the programmation will be announced it remains in the same vein. http://www.montrealjazzfest.com/Fijm2008/p....aspx?serie=384
