The daughter just randomly chose the bullets when she bought the gun and she picked a box of blanks. It wasn't random - she chose the blanks. (But is a bit ambiguous, which led to a spirited debate here in the office.)

More rumors: iPod is secretly gay and having an affair with Tom Cruise.

Don't hurt me, but I've always prefered (by far) Pearl Jam to Nirvana.

Seriously doubt that Mosaic will ever release this stuff due to its relative lack of "jazz" content during this period of NKC's career. Seriously, Bear is a highly commendable, legit label. If you love this period of Nat Cole, this will likely be the only place you will ever find the "complete" recordings in one box. Bear is expensive, though, and 11 discs is a lot of NKC. I've no doubt that someone will soon come out with a cheaper, rip-off box (though probably not as complete). You really don't have a lot of options here. Do you want the box or not?

Wow. Did they actually ask you to return the broken CD to them? Every time i've had a problem with them they've told me to keep the CD and have sent a replacement at no charge (including, once, a 5-CD box set). I've a lot of problems with the club, but their customer service has always been great for me.

I'd pass too at that price.

Reminds me of that old SNL (Jon Lovitz?) sketch: "I'm Picasso!"

My four year old drew something just like that. Only it's a kitty cat. It doesn't have testicles either.

Well........Did she say yes????? No. But she was very nice - cute too!

Charlie's other daughter, Rachel I think, used to work at Rhino records. I bought a Haden CD there once and she said, "My dad did that one." Then a buddy i was with asked her out on a date.

I don't think the real Mr. Mingus would approve. -
What's the difference between Cool and West Coast Jazz?

I'd say that's the definitive answer to this particular question... Heck, that might be my new definitive answer to all questions! -
Can I play? How 'bout a mint (unused?) Complete Keynote LP set for only $85, from Aron's going-out-of-business sale.

So my car was broken into last night...

Someone once broke into our old Mustang and made off with one of the removeable T-top roof panels (while, oddly, leaving money in the holder). We couldn't imagine what the thief must have been thinking, and apparently neither could he as we later found the T-top panel a block down the street. Yes, folks, this is your brain on drugs... -
As I said before, the rights of both the father and the mother are trumped (as they should be) by the rights of the child. There's no excuse for the child to have to suffer just because daddy doesn't want to pay. I'd be all in favor of daddy suing momma for "fraud," but either arresting momma or having her pay some settlement to dad would only be detrimental to the child in the end. This is a complex moral/ethical/legal issue in many ways - and it's often not fair to either mom or dad - but it's often quite simple when it comes to doing what's best for the child.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
RDK replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Tonight or possibly tomorrow night... Pharoah Sanders at the Jazz Bakery. -
The funny thing was, having heard about this story yesterday, the minute I saw the thread title I knew exactly what it was about. But it coulda been about you too, Ron...

Bullshit. Agreed!

Congrats! Keep up the good work! I too know some former junkies who cant stop smoking. Brutal. It is still beyond me how those things are still legal at all. Never smoked a cig in my life, and while I'm pleased to see that smoking may be decreasing I have no desire to make cigs illegal - no more, at least, than prohibiting folks from drinking beer or alcohol, eating greasy foods, or smoking pot. It's all about personal responsibility. For decades now we've been taught that smoking is bad for you. If someone still wants to smoke, knock yourself out. Just don't come crying to me when you get lung cancer or try to sue a manufacturer for selling you a dangerous product that you willingly purchase. At the same time, no cig manufacturer should be targetting those under 18 and cigs shouldn't be sold to kids. But I'm pretty libertarian when it comes to this issue. Now you can move this to Politics...

Yeah, there're some shades of gray here due to the possible "entrapment" issue, but as Jim says you stick your dick in there you're responsible for whatever happens next. Either way, though, the guy's an asshole for doing this, whether it's because he's a cheap, irresponsible s.o.b. or if he's just trying to make a point. The thing is, the courts default any decision to what's called "the best interests of the child," so it'll be one hell of a longshot if this guy prevails. No matter that the woman may have "tricked him," no matter that the guy didn't want the child in the first place... the kid's born and if the court feels that the baby will have a better life with the guy coughing up support then that's what's gonna happen...

Proper Box, Mosaic and Eldridge set Question
RDK replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I can't speak for all the Proper boxes as I only have (and heard) a few of them, but those that I've heard have sounded pretty decent. I'm also not sure if you can accuse them - in regards to their Eldridge set - of stealing from the Mosaic since I believe their box predated the Mosaic (though i could be wrong). They may have lifted from other Verve and/or Japanese releases however. I'm glad to see at least some admitting that Proper is a perfectly legal company - in Europe at least - though calling them "unethical" seems rather debatable. If they are indeed "stealing" other company's masterings then, yes, I agree, but I'm not sure if that's been proven (though i wouldn't be surprised if it were true). As for the sound quality, it might suck - but that in itself isn't "unethical" either. Plenty of "legit" releases suck as well. Still, I can't imagine there being much of a conflict between buying the Mosaic or the Proper version of the Eldridge set. The Mosaic box is for serious jazz fans and completists/collectors who only want the best; the Proper box, in contrast, is a cheaper compilation. -
And he liked her.

I'm Goin' To Da Dentist Tomorrow

I've had two root canals and I think 4-5 crowns, including one last week. It's become fairly routine. With the shots, you really don't feel a thing except for some minor discomfort for a day or two after. Fortunately I've got pretty good insurance; prior to that it did get pretty expensive.
