  1. But nevertheless I voted to keep it.
  2. Makes no difference to me.
  3. While it may be hard to pick one Mingus disc as his "best," I'm blown away to see anyone consider this as his "worst." I agree! "Ah Um" isn't just my favorite Mingus album but one of my all time top 10 jazz albums period.
  4. All it would take is a bit of cheery civil disaobedience - say, willingly pissing yourself at your desk - to get this policy overturned in a heartbeat.
  5. Made you look!
  6. Hey, is that a box of old Blue Note deep-grooves down there in the corner??!!
  7. Not at all. I'm curious too, though my expectations aren't all that high. That said, I hope it's the best album of Marsalis' career.
  8. I'm curious who the moderator is over there as he was clearly aware of Danny's reputation and of his previous escapades on this and other boards.
  9. The joking about revisiting "older" BFTs aside, it is very interesting to go back and listen to the disc *after* learning who the artists are. For me at least, there's a big difference between really listening to someone and trying to guess who they are.
  10. It looks like Danny's already overstayed his welcome there as there's no longer any sign of him or his posts...
  11. That's a shitty school policy...
  12. Lon, you should be a politician. (and I mean that in only the best of ways)
  13. I'm not surprised at all that the reviews were pulled. There were too many blatant shots at SACD and Wynton-bashing by people who were just using Norah's album as an SACD platform or just to bash Wynton (has his album even been released yet?). I also can't criticize BN for pulling them as I think it's just as wrong (and undermining to the review process) to load up on the jibes just out of spite as it is to edit out the bad ones to make the product look superior. Quite frankly, I put no real credence in any review that doesn't have a name or address attached - and even then I doubt its legitimacy.
  14. Hey Jim, count me in for a double. (I've e-mailed you). I'm curious - does anyone *not* want the second disc?
  15. Ah Christ, can't we stop talking about him now!?
  16. Chuck, do you have a list of all product you have (or will soon have) available? I know there was at least one other disc of yours I had me eye on, but for the life of me I can't recall what it is now. You can e-mail or PM me with it if you'd like or just post it here as I'm sure others would be interested (unless it's like a big catalog of titles or something). It's not spam if I ask for it.
  17. I'm not so sure that's the real moderator - his screen name is different: _moderator_ ***** I couldn't care less right now whether the new BN board is a success or not, but I'm already tired of the petty hijinks I see carried over to that board: all the fake names, duplicate identities, and shit like this _moderator_ guy posts. The on-line jazz community's too small to alienate folks with all this infantile in-joke crap. It's one thing to run free on a longer leash here, but BN Europe is just another version of the ol' defunct corporate BN board and if they're smart they won't put up with all the shit that helped bring down the old one. I may not like the position they're in (and will no doubt take), but what really bothers me is the way some posters from here seem determined to sabotage things from the start.
  18. Intriguing. I'm not familiar with this album (and only have a bit of Marsh to begin with). Is this Warne in a quartet setting or something more unconventional (for him)? And from the mid-70's? Is it a fairly typical date for him or something more offbeat and out there (as I'd expect from a Nessa release)? Might be a good opportunity for me to grab a few things I've been meaning to grab from Chuck...
  19. Ack! Figures I'd mess up my own punchline. It just occured to me that the correct answer is "they're both surrounded by boobs."
  20. Maybe I phrased it poorly, but, uh... boobs?
  21. Way too easy: what do large breasted women and George Bush have in common?
  22. Me too! (and I'm having problems emailing/pm-ing as well!)
  23. I think that one's already taken by another poster on this thread...
  24. Talk about being caught between a rack and a hard place!
  25. I'm with those who really dig this one. But in a battle of wits I'm afraid I'd probably lose. Speaking of CD audio pseudo-tweaks, years ago I picked up one of those Keith Jarrett trio discs (used) that had those "CD rings" glued to the perimeter of the disc. Never noticed any difference in that good ol' ECM sound and I don't think they make those rings anymore. I wonder if I can get a premium for that disc on Ebay?
